Texas is a lot flatter then I thought it would be
    - It's greener then I thought it would be too, at least around Dallas area
    - Dallas/DFW/Ft Worth is really spread out, to the point of being stupid. - There is no public transportation so everyone drives.
    - They build lots of freeways but they call them expressways and charge you to
    drive on them. Lame.
    - Highway construction vehicles have flashing blue lights on them, but they are not cops. They are just trying to fool you.
    - There will be expressway and non-express way versions of the same freeway and its nearly impossible to figure out which one you should use or what lane to be in in order to get where you are going.
    - DFW is a horrible airport that is too big and spread out.
    - Ft Worth has cows.
    - There are endless fast-casual family dining options in strip mall shopping centers off the freeways.

I guess you've never heard of "The Hill Country" then? Texas ranks 14th on the list of highest elevations of US states. The highest point is Guadalupoe Peak at 8,751ft.

Do you know Texas also has a Canyon? Palo Duro Canyon down down over 2000ft.

    - Dallas/DFW/Ft Worth is really spread out, to the point of being stupid. - There is no public transportation so everyone drives.

DART provides both light rail and bus services to member cities. There are lines that go from Plano, Garland, Irving, South Dallas into Dallas. Many cities have bus service and special transportation for disabled. Of course is it spread out, it's a cluster of a lot of cities.

    - They build lots of freeways but they call them expressways and charge you to
    drive on them. Lame.
No, they're called tollroads and you have an option as to whether you drive on them or not. If you want to pay to get there a little faster, you're welcome to. By the way, Dallas isn't the only city with tollroads. I seem to recall
you can barely cross a bridge in San Francisco without having to pay a toll.

    - Highway construction vehicles have flashing blue lights on them, but they are not cops. They are just trying to fool you.
Every state has a different rule for their emergency vehicles. Nebraska, for example, allows blue and amber lights on construction vehicles. In fact, Texas is very explicit when it comes to constrcution vehicles in a work zone. Blue
on the drivers side and amber on the passenger side.

    - There will be expressway and non-express way versions of the same freeway and its nearly impossible to figure out which one you should use or what lane to be in in order to get where you are going.
Maybe you should learn to read signs.

    - DFW is a horrible airport that is too big and spread out.
DFW airport is the 10th busiest in the world and 4th in the US. It handles over 75 million passengers per year. That works out at 205479 per day.
Imagine trying to find gates for 1850 flights a day and how cramped it
would be trying to fit all those people into terminal areas. The total area taken up by DFW airport is less than half that of Denver International.

    - Ft Worth has cows.
Ft Worth has a popular stockyards and rodeo area if you're into that sort of thing.

    - There are endless fast-casual family dining options in strip mall shopping centers off the freeways.
Why is having an option on where to eat a bad thing? There's a lot of chains, as like with every city, and plenty of independent restaurants too.

If you want to diss my state, come with a better argument because none of your points are valid.

Something got messed up in the formatting of your reply. I'm just grabbing points in random order here because the formatting came thru odd.

As someone from a state where only the police are allowed to use blue lights--- it comes as a shock. My suspicion is they use the blue lights because we're all programmed to "slow down" when we see them. Which isn't a bad thing... I'm not saying it shouldn't be. I'm just saying it's a shock to one who hasn't seen it.

I didn't say it was bad. It's just far different from I'm used to. They are endless. Thats not what exists where I'm from. I got some great food at a few of them. It was called Whiskey Cake, and it was amazing.

If you want to diss my state, come with a better argument because none of your points are valid.

Dude.... I'm not dissing texas. These are just my observations. They are not even points.

Okay, so here there was a bit of judgement. My "Lame" is a result of my fustration, as a person who have not had to decide which Freeway they want to use in order to get somewhere, one pay and one free. And to make that decision in a split second by sweeping across lanes. As someone who lives in the area, maybe you're used to it. Getting in a rental car and trying to drive... its confusing. You have to admin the Freeway/expressway/tollway footprint in DFW area is very complex.

I seem to recall you can barely cross a bridge in San Francisco without having to pay a toll.

I don't like them any more then you do. In my opinion Roads shouldn't be a commercial enterprise. But thats what they are building in CA. They are converting car pool lanes to "express lanes" where you can use them for free if you have a car pool, or pay if you don't have enough people. Basically you're creating a fast lane for those that can afford it, and they are doing it by converting a lane in a road that already exists and was paid for by taxes into a lane that is managed by some other commercial authority.

    Bob,

    - Dallas/DFW/Ft Worth is really spread out, to the point of being
stupid. - There is no public transportation so everyone drives.

It depends where you are...there is light rail (D.A.R.T.) there.

    - Highway construction vehicles have flashing blue lights on them, but they are not cops. They are just trying to fool you.

    They need those in Arkansas.

    - DFW is a horrible airport that is too big and spread out.

Love Field is much smaller by comparison.

    - Ft Worth has cows.

    And the stockyards.

    Daryl

... I ran today...the Good Humour Ice Cream Truck was doing 60 mph.

Yeah, it's a year old, so shoot me. Lol.

DFW is not bad if you're originating or terminating your trip there. If
you're passing through and you have to go from a different terminal,
that's when you realize just how big DFW aiport is.

DFW is the 4th largest airport in the world, based on area, at almost
27 sq mi. (70 sq km).

I've flown a fair amount out of Love Field recently since I've been
using my Southwest points. It's grown up a lot since I first went
    there.
