I just joined the network and wanted to introduce myself. I run hobbylinebbs.com which is
the home of HobbyNet and I feel this network would be a great fit for my system. Looking
forward to the opportunity to connect.

Thanks. Glad it made it out. I am not a Ham Radio guy, but want to make sure anyone on my system has access to a ham-related network.

Great idea! May I recommend keeping an eye on some of the digital methods which are being invented/improved. It's amazing what's available...even with a tech ticket.

There's some really good stuff happening with digital modes these days, in all of their forms.

Still want to do hellscriber & other older modes eventually...if I can get a decent antenna setup. Seen others do them...but was never able to do so successfully. Other than that...was doing JT65 & loved doing those modes.

... This is as bad as it can get...but don't bet on it.

Hell actually isn't a digital mode, strictly speaking, but it is intriguing. Once I get HF back up, I'll play more with the digital modes myself, as well as the analogue ones like Hell and SSTV.

Had an old ham when I got my ticket tell me about it. As an amateur historian...for myself...it's almost the same feeling when you see a dessert you love...but not being able to touch it.

I may eventually be moving soon to the Oregon coast to a private home...rather than living in an apartment...will put up either/both of my homebrewed end-fed or the tuned dipole I made around 10 years ago when I was living in Idaho. As for the end-fed...bought some thick speaker wire from the retail store a while ago. With 100 ft of double wire...would make a beautiful end-fed for doing 160 M & such. My Elmer who tuned my dipole had his end-fed running from his shack on the top of a wood fence around his yard.

With my HF tuner...might even look into setting up a wire fence if that's what they have.

Hmm, the analogy fails for some reason, too many context changes - what's dessert got to do with being an amateur historian? (also the wrong course to get me excited on LOL).

My move will be a lot less dramatic - literally 5 minutes down the road, but a biger house and not rented. :)

Don't think I'll be too popular zapping the neighbour's kids on the Colourbond fence. :D
