Well... 45+ years ago I got started in 11 meter, which back then, included a license from the FCC. Never really got interested in anything else. When I started my trucking company, naturally, it was a must back then. When I sold the business in '81 when my 2nd daughter was born, I forgot all about it actually. Most of my equipment went with the trucks... including my old modded Horizon 29 and my old Palomar "tubed" 50 watt kicker. Was amazing on a clear night who'd you get to talk to in the middle of Iowa when the spots were being generous.

Thirty years later, I run into friend who owns a radio shop and wouldn't you know, the bug bites me again. I bought an old Ranger 6900 and added a 4 pill kicker. Was doing just south of 1,000 amps. I upgraded to a RCI-2970N2 for the truck and a RCI-2980WX for the house (both modded). I've never set the base up in the new house and I hope to run the new power wires in the truck this spring... if Mother Nature ever gets her act together.

I treated myself to a G-Pro Karma this past Christmas but being my house is within 3 miles of an airport, I haven't flown it yet. The weather has a part in that too. I will say I can fly the hell out of the simulator that comes with the controller though. Just doesn't seem to like doing loops.. lol!!

I've always thought about getting a full blown ticket but for some reason, I've been procrastinating. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be in my house sd zi'm lookinh into moving closer to my daughters who are about 2+ hours away. If I go there, then I'll do it. I already have over 100' of 40mm pipe so it depends on how tall the house would be up north as to how much of that pipe I can actually use. Till then, everything is in limbo... :)

    Anything else?? :)

I think many of us started out that way, I also started on CB - both 27 MHz and UHF, as we have 2 bands under our CB service in Australia. And like the US, we used to require a licence for CB. That ended in 1994, IIRC. Interestingly, CB, especially 27 MHz, is undergoing somewhat of a revival down here - there is a very active Australian CB users group with quite a number of people reporting on activity

Yeah, I'm about 100 metres within the exclusion zone of the local airport, when it comes to flying drones and other RC aircraft. I could walk up to the paddocs behind me, and I'd both e clear of the xclusion zone and have plenty of space rarely usd by people for flying. :) Still haven't got the drone yet. :(
