Can anyone help me on creating a Winamp shoutcast server? Or know of some
other type that would (best) work for my needs to stream music or podcast from my system. This is a project that I know nothing about.

    Windows or Linux?

What would you like to know? I run http://radio.realitycheckbbs.org on Shoutcast for Windows, and it's pretty simple. I use the Shoutcast DNAS server and a shoutcast plugin for Winamp.

As long as the DNAS server and the Shoutcast plugin have the same password and port, it should all work pretty easily.

Netmail me or find me on synchro.net IRC, I'd be happy to help.

Cool, will netmail you if I can't get those two working together.

I just check out yours, very nice .. wondering if your is the FREE DNAS server or one of the others that cost monthly? Seems to me like I can't even download the free version without giving them a name first/last email and a password. Kinda lame that they require that for free version.

Mine's the free one - I upgraded from DNAS 1, which worked fine for streaming but didn't update the shoutcast directory, to DNAS 2.

DNAS 2 requires an API key from shoutcast.com to list to their site, but I thought it was still free.

I put my downloaded files here if you have problems downloading them directly:

I was able to find an older free version 1.9.8 and installed it. I'm having issues with editing the INI file. Here is what my log shows.

You need to open 8000 by default, I've never had to do anything to get it to autoconnect.

OK I think that I'm getting somewhere now... when I goto http://fluph.zapto.org:8000 I can see the Shoutcast webpage with the status/other stuff and the Admin login on the far right. With the status in
    the middle. Current Stream Information
Server Status: Server is currently down.
The connect button on the plugin Source keeps looping and the DNAS log reads Event log:

My winamp DSP plugin status show AUTH error DJ/User ID or password and the
box with the User ID just says skuz and the other box has a password that matches the sc_serv.ini the I edited for the DNAS above. Still know magic happening. Least I'm getting somewhere.. lol

Ah....after doing a bit of reading, ShoutCast doesn't require a username,
just a password. IceCast requires both user/pass.

You might try IceCast is you keep having trouble with ShoutCast.

Also on the buffer, I set my Darkice encoder, I set the buffer to 15 seconds. Does the ShoutCast server let you set this? Darkice calls it the "internal slip buffer".

    Thanks!

Nope my old version 1.9.8 doesn't have that option. Will look into IceCast/Darkice encoder. This older version of Shoutcast has some sad
buffering problems for sure,. from what I've tested..
