• Prepper OR Survivalist?

From xqtr@9:92/9 to All on Sat Jun 1 13:00:17 2019
I as i said before, i started as a prepper/hoarder :) in the path i got more into survivalism... learning skills, doing stuff and buying less! Specially
the last one, was a very big issue, cause i am almost broke. But that wasn't
my main reason for being more a survivalist type.

I think that shit happens, in the most unexpected time and you/we should be prepared at all times. Specially if we talk about natural phenomenon
disasters. An earthquake, a big forest fire, a cataclysm...are things that now days are very possible to happen. THe past summer in a small area of Greece, about 103 people died in a very big fire, alive! People went to the sea, to save their lives and 99.99% of them, were caught "off guard"... no equipment, no knowledge! Those who lived... lived by pure luck!

So i think that the most valuable "Item"/"Kit" to have always on you, is the mind! Good physical condition, being calm and sharp!

    What do you think?

I think prepping is a waste of time and energy worrying about such things,
and it nurtures a sense of paranoia that causes people to believe in bizarre conspiracies.

I am of the opinion that shit happens, and that's the way things go. I am prepared for "typical" types of things (gun to kill the robbers, wear seat
belt when driving, look both ways before crossing the street) but I'm not
about to stockpile MREs and potable water just in case some unexpected turn
    of events happens.

For the conspiracies i am not sure... some look pretty real :) For the
paranoia and stockpiling i agree. At first i was something like that, but
after seeing how hopeless this is and how much energy and money you waste, at the same time that other people are starving, i reconsidered things a lot.

shit happens... sure... but it doesn't heart to be prepared in some level... between logical boundaries i mean. :) a good first aid kit at home, car,
office and basic A'Aid skills are enough for many situations. From there someone can be prepared for other things also, like natural phenomena, which aren't very rare lately, worldwide.

This is a "trap"... too many "preppers" are preparing for ex: alien invasion, but they don't prepare for a car accident, a home accident, a choking from
food etc, which are normal and everyday dangers in our lives. I see people spending hundreds of dollars in expensive stuff, that they don't use even once or they train their selves in gun shootings, without knowing how to treat a would. First learn to walk and then learn to run ;)

Uh.. ;) Can't say I agree with this one. Maybe I'm putting the cart before
the horse...maybe believing in conspiracies is a precursor to being a
prepper. No offense or anything. ;)

There are "conspiracy theories" that have been proved, even in the past. For example some World War II projects, at the beginning were just "conspiracy theories", but after proved to be "projects". I am sure that this is also true today.

Also, you don't have to prove or just believe a conspiracy theory to be prepared. We all see that the world is going in a crazy spiral towards war, poverty, misery etc. We all see that the "big brother" step by step invades
our privacy and many other things... like economic crisis in various countries etc.

So to be a prepper/survivalist today... seems a "logical" and the right thing to do, even if someone does it for the wrong reasons. Even if you believe in
an alien invasion and you got prepared for that, in a big earthquake all these materials and knowledge a prepper collected, will be very useful ;)

So for me, its not the question if someone should be a prepper/surv., but how and to which level? cause as you mention, over reacting and living in fear is also bad.

being a prepper. No offense or anything. ;)

Non taken :) specially on those type of things like prepping, i am not getting offended. The whole think is about the "view angle" of each one and its completely understandable that we all have our personal view on things and we should force our opinion to others. So, i also want to tell that i am not forcing my opinion, or that i am the "right" and you are the "wrong", we just exchanging views :)
