• Any Martini Drinkers Here?

I love downing the occational, OK no so occational, Martini. I am curious if there are any others on the echo who would like to share their favorite recipe.

I am partial to the Classic Gin Martini.

I don't have a fancy shaker.. I keep a large glass in the freeze that I use for mixing.. I also keep a couple of cocktail glasses in the freezer too. No matter what recipe you use to make your martini.. it should be served cold.. very cold! Oh.. I also keep my gin in the freezer too!

    1. Place a few ice cubes in the mixing class.
    2. Add a splash of Dry Vermouth (no more than 1/2 oz.. I use less)
2.a Swirl around for a few seconds.
    3. 3 or 4 oz of Gin.. I am cheap and usually drink McCormicks Gin
3.a Swirl around for a second or two.
    4. Strain into Cocktail Glass (I use my fingers to hold back the ice).
    5. Add Garnish.. A Couple of large olives, or a twist of olive peel.

Alternative.. Dirty Martini.. add a splash of olive jar juice to the mix.

    Enjoy...

Thanks for sharing this, sounds wonderful. I really never had a Martini to be truthful. Although I do like Gin and juice served cold from time to time.

I wasn't a Martini drinker either, until a few months ago when I started to watch M*A*S*H reruns. The Hawkeye character seems to enjoy them and since I
am a gin drinker anyway I thought I've them a try. I found that I am very fond of them too. I have also started experimenting with Vodka Martinis. I am not really fond of Vodka, but somehow the Vermouth and a garnish of some sort make them palatable as well.

    Bottoms Up,

Welcome to the Martini club. I enjoy vodka and gin versions, depending on
the mood. Oh, and shaken, NOT stirred. :-)

I'm more of a Gibson martini fan - just a hint of vermouth (rinse the glass
out with it) and replace the olives with onions. Best slightly dirty.

I just finished making pasta dough with my son, it's chilling in the
fridge. We're doing a linguine carbonara tonight for my family, and I think
a Gibson would go nicely whilst cooking...

A proper glass helps, although a lowball glass holds more.

I've been experimenting (perhaps a bit to much) and have found that I like 1 part dry vermouth to 5 parts gin. I have been wanting to try a Gibson, but I keep forgetting to buy the cocktail onions when I'm in town.

I have also become fond of vodka martinis, but I prefer sweet vermouth with
the vodka.. and again I like the 1:5 part ratio. I don't use any garnish
with the vodka martini though.. the olive doesn't seem to mate with the vodka well.. (maybe an onion?)

Well.. it's almost 2PM.. I suppose it's late enough to down a Dry Martini (maybe two), and then a late afternoon nap might be good.

    Cheers!

I have a set of cocktail glasses in the freezer, but I still need to get a mixer / shaker. I might buy an inexpensive bar set on ebay this coming
    payday.
