Clinical studies confirm what your grandmother always told you; that spices aren't only good, but they are good for you. What sort of spices are we
talking about and how are they good for you? Glad you asked! For example; cinnamon is good for diabetics because it will moderate blood sugar (glucose) levels. Turmeric is a natural tumor suppressor. Ginger is an
anti-inflammatory that might well be better than asprin (made from willow
bark by the way) and many other highly touted perscription drugs that have harmful side effects you only hear about when you turn on the TV and the company is being sued for using the American public as guinea pigs, with the FDA's full approval and blessings of course.

Your diet would be pretty bland and tasteless without at least some sort of spice. Salt is one of the basic spices (actually it is a mineral) used in cooking and one the body needs. Without salt, your body shuts down and you
die. There are many cases of people, especially the very young and the very old, refusing to eat strange or tasteless foods and starving to death. Yes, without spice, life would be very bland indeed, and in fact your health may suffer. In countries that encourage or have a history of spice eating,
breast, colon, lung, and prostate cancers are much lower. Why? Because allergies, cancer, diabetes and heart disease are believed to be caused by inflammation or other problems that spices combat.

So what sort of spices are we talking about? Well cinnamon was mentioned
above, so let's start there. Cinnamon is the bark of the cinnamon tree and
many studies show it lowers hemoglobin A1c in the blood (an indicator of long term blood glucose control) and lowers LDL (this is the bad) cholesterol. Recommended amounts are about one half teaspoon a day. Eaten early in the day with pancakes, whole grain toast or oatmeal, it helps control blood sugars
    all day.
