    Yes, and Yes.

..The library thing sounds sorta good, but what about public and/or unsecured wifi? Like McDonalds or something? I've never tried it,
mainly because I'm unsure if the wifi provider(s) can find out anything about me besides my device?

Spoof your MAC address and VPN out past the local AP.

Another concern is that public and/or unsecured wifi has little
    bandwidth in most cases.

When you find that golden WIFI, claim it as your own. I got 30mbps
recently at my local COFFEE SHO.

And lastly, is there torrent software available for Android? I'd be
    using my phone.

And one other detail: Can I encrypt my Android phone with a method similiar to LUKS?

Usenet via a provider who has SSL support and doesn't log, over a

I'm up for learning about encrypting my hard drive. I'm looking forward
    to hearing more about this.
For Windows the best encryption option if a software package called
VeraCrypt. It is based on TrueCrypt (which used to be the best until they folded). It allows you to encrypt the entire hard drive so you can't even fully boot the computer without entering the passcode.

On Linux the best alternative is "Encrypted LUKS" which is also a whole hard drive encryption alternative. Both of these software packages are
    open-source and without financial cost.

However, I'm sure the ISP I used when downloading all this shit could report me to the feds, and they can probably convict me without even bothering with my HD. Right? Wrong? I'm not giving up my jams! That shit will be there for me after I serve my sentence! :)

Just go to your local library and pop in a usb flash drive. If you're
worried about your ISP spooking you then consider a VPN (virtual private network) so that you can tunnel your activity to a less repressive regims' internet access point.

    I hope that this help!

Thanks! I'm looking into this right now. I don't see any software package for it though, is it typically built into the OS distro? I'm using Mint, which is some Ubuntu variation. I like the way this thing sounds so far.

    Hi metalhead,
Yes, it is built into the OS, to use it you would have to back up your data,
do a full reinstall, select "Encrytped LUKS" during partitioning, enter a
long password and *bang* it works perfectly. Then you'd copy your data back and destroy or wipe the backup media. And no, you don't need to be a
criminal to care about your right to privacy. The Man should not have access
to anything. Privacy is or should be a human right. People who would trade privacy for security will have neither.

I haven't torrented for about 3 years now. I used to use mininova.org, thepiratebay.com, and some other one that is also defunct at this point. Is torrenting still the way to go, in the same manner it was back then? I feel rusty, since it's been kind of a long time for me.

I really do miss all the music, movies and books. Especially the
    movies/videos. There's a movie that I want to see really bad, but I can't
even pay money to see it, because it's not for sale, but it's 99% likely to be out there somewhere connected to a torrent.

Torrenting is still VERY alive and well. The key is private trackers: There are
some extremly quality trackers that specialize in almost any topic you can think of. Ratios are enforced, torrent files/checks are handled via TLS, etc. There is also alwasy the decentralized versions.

That sort of thing bugs me though; if I seed, then I'm twice as guilty if I
get busted. I've been a member of sites like demonoid.com. They didn't screen people in any useful way, that I could tell. What could they possibly do besides record email addresses & IPs?

I suppose I can encrypt all my hard drives, memory cards, etc, but there will still be the issue of ISP logs/records.

There is a way around the libraries security system. Its called portableapps.com. It will allow you to preload software on to your flash
drive that can be run like an auto loader similar to a music CD. You can
load VLC which will play whatever media you want.

If I were to get something sensitive I'd bring a laptop outside of a store
that has wi-fi and do all the stuff from there. If you're really concerned about privacy I'd bring a laptop that boots off of TAILS. Tails is a secure operating system distribution verson of Linux and TOR. You can get it from https://tails.boum.org. It is the state of the art in secure internet communications.

I don't have a cellphone so I don't know. However, unrelated this may be you might want to try PGP WholeDisk. It doesn't provide any greater security
than EncryptedLUKS or VeraCrypt, but its easier to use.

    I hope this helps!
One thing to consider: don't do anything illegal and you won't be as worried. Granted governments can't be trusted, but keeping things above-board can relieve h4x02 stress. =)

They can record just about anything these days so being paranoid is just not gonna happen we know its possible. The question begs are you protecting yourself enough from it using incognito mode and a vpn connection or other tools to protect and secure your privacy.

haha true enough, but I had taken other measures to secure my connections @ home on all devices either it be PC or otherwise. Can only do so much so read/learn your rights and what you can do to always protect yourself.
