• C64 Going prices?

From Spitfire@80:774/69 to All on Sat Jun 30 07:10:49 2018
Here locally there is someone selling a C64D and 2 1541 disk drives. He says they power up, but does not know much more than that. He is asking $150.00 for the bundle. I was wondering if this is a good price these days for
    what he is offering?

For an untested unit it is not a good deal in my book ;)

Also for me having a 1541 Ultimate or at least a SD2IEC makes much more sense than a real drive nowadays.

Jeez, I gave away a C64c, C128, Amiga 500, HD for the Amiga, Lt Kernal parts
to build one a LTK muxer.. If I would have known the going prices I would
    have sold it all!

I would rather find a working Amiga 500. That is what I am seaching for now. FYI

Going to take an old laptop of mine and make it into a Vise C64 system.

The A500's are everywhere.. I kind of wish I would have kept my Amiga stuff because now that I want to run an Amiga board again also it would have been nice to have the A500 here to run it directly or at least be able to read the disks I have.. I am building a Virtual Machine Lab here, going to take a computer and run 4 different VM boxes on it and each one will cater to a different operating system, one will have Win 10 w/Vice, the next Win 10/UAE, the next Win 10/32bit to run my Mystic BBS, and the last one will be just a plain jane system to possibly run a Mac system on.. The base OS will be
Lubuntu because it needs very little resources to run and will not hog the memory like a Win 10 or 7 machine would. Hopefully, it will work out and everything will run together in harmony.. We'll see though, gotta wait for
the computer I just picked up off of eBay to arrive..

They should not be too hard to find.
(You can then equip them with a Gotek floppy emulator.)

Gladly I bought an Amiga 1200 when the prices on those were not yet insane.
It is a very nice AGA Amiga with HDD (or CompactFlash option;)
Getting an affordable A1200 is really hard nowadays.

I am eyeing a few on ebay now, but the bids go a bit to high for my taste. The better half will not allow me to burn to much into this old hobby.
If I can just get back what I had back in the day. It was a very nice A500 with the HD slid into the side and 3 megs chip ram.

Sorry for bringing back an old post, I just bought a C64C with Joystick,
Super Graphix printer card, and cables for $130, I also picked up a 1541 for $60, so $150 for that is a great price.. The C64C will most likely go up for sale in about 4 or 5 months when I get my Ultimate 64..

Things have change and I am limited on what I can spend on this hobby.

Tell me about it.. Only reason I went with some real hardware is it makes
life programming easier.. The prices though are rediculous.. My Image 1.2 on vice is just as fast as my Amiga and PC boards.. Plus with Vice you get all
the hardware you always wanted.. SCPU, Swiftlink, FD4000.. Only thing it is lacking is true hard drive support...

C64 was a great machine in the the late 80's. If you have a chance to get one, do it. prices are on the rise for old vintage computers. just make sure it tested first before purchasing.

I grew up with the c3C64q1 and I can't wait to get one again once I have the space. You're not kidding, prices on ceEbayq1 for all things retro computing are skyrocketing. It's a combination of increasing scarcity and the fact that we're all so much older, many having deep pockets. Get them while you can.

    Indeed a great machine.
As there were many made, prices are still pretty low.

And even if you get a defective one you can reuse the case and keyboard and put
    in a 64 ultimate.

I agree with Ricsi, I have a U64 and although pricey this thing is what the C64
would be today if it was still around.. If you are dead set to get a C64 on eBay, they can be had for around $100 in not great condition, I picked up a C64
back in 2018 with joystick, power supply, cables, and the original box for $100, then when I thought I killed it, I picked up one which I really didn't look at to closely which when received had no power supply and looked like it was sitting in someones mechanic garage for years by the amount of grease that was on it, that one was $100 also.. I broke 3 of the stems for the keys so I picked up another keyboard for $40, and sanded and painted the case. It runs my
Lt Kernal clone now so I can program with it.. They are tough machines, I have
    2 plus the U64..
