Ok I joined this net because I wanted to learn more about the pi.. My
questions to all are besides using it to run BBS' and to use it as a sort of FireTV, or an Emulator. What other good uses does it have? My son has been telling me I could have his pi that he built to watch TV with like FireTV,
but what else can I do with it?? Fill me in folks.. :)

I use my Pi for quite boring activities. I run my HTTP website and Onion
site. I have it running Radarr and SickChill to search for TV Shows and
Movies on Usenet, with NZBGET to download them. I also have a RAID1 NAS connected to it which I use to backup documents, photos, videos from all my devices. Plus a external HDD to backup less critical files.

I have Weechat for IRC, SLRN for Newsgroups, CardDav and CalDav for contacts and calendar sync.

If adverts annoy you you can install PiHole to block ads, then each device connected to you home network doesn't need to run its own blocker. This works for mobile devices to.

It's a complete computer -- just add kbd, mouse and monitor -- roughly equivalent in firepower to a desktop ca. 2005. So it can be used for pretty much anything (well, maybe not high-end gaming :-) ).

Though they are often used for rather utilitarian purposes -- various sorts
of servers, for example, home automation, entertainment servers, the sorts of set-and-forget stuff that requires little user intervention and can be run headless. Being tiny and consuming very little power, you can stick them in a corner or the back of a wiring closet and walk away.

They're also frequently used in nerdy-geeky DIY projects like robots, retro-gaming (e.g., recreating video arcade consoles and GameBoys), build-you-own laptops and cellphones, even remote-controlled coffee makers.

Google "Raspberry Pi" projects. You'll find a number of sites with dozens to hundreds of Pi proejcts you can try.

I set one up headless (without a keyboard and mouse) for internet radio so I don't have to have a system running just to listen to the radio.
