    Hi Everyone,

Just added PiNet to my BBS (Dark Systems BBS, a RemoteAccess board out of Peterborough, Ontario Canada) and thought I'd try and rum up some traffic in this echo. :)

In an effort to add more blinky lights and unnecessary coolness factor to a couple of small server closets I run, as well as basic ambient temperature reporting I suppose..., I used a couple of Pis, Dallas 18b20 I2c temperature sensors and Adafruit RGB (negative) 16x2 LCD (with I2c backpack) displays to build a temperature sensor with colour indicating readout.

A simple Python program running on each unit samples the rooms temperature and displays the current time and degrees C on the 16x2 LCD. The LCD's colour changes from green to yellow to red depending on the
    temperature reading.
The Pi is connected to the network and sends me an SMS (via my cell providers email2sms gateway, because I'm cheap) if the temperature is above a set value.

Just a useful yet overkill project for a simple task. :)

Anyone else share something you're working on or built?

    Aaron/DW

    That's pretty cool!

I'm running my BBS off of a Raspberry Pi as well. The case is a US Robotics Courier 56k modem box with the insides removed. I'm in the process of wiring up LEDs to a board that will connect to the Pi, and I've already got a Python script that will simulate the Waiting For Call, Connecting to System, and Caller Online lights.

All I have to do is get off my butt and finish building the circuit board, and it'll look awesome!

    ͯ Morgul!
