* VLC Player (most popular player for icecast streams it appears)
* FMODEx 4.44 (API software of some sort)

* XMPlay 3.8.2.34
* BASS 2.4" 2
* SinusBot (plugin for teamspeak and discord chat)

I'm not familiar with IceCast, but I've often used WinAmp to listen to ShoutCast streams.

They are essentially the same. You just have to pay for Shoutcast if you want more advanced features. I stated out with Shoutcast, then moved to Icecast.
With this said, it appears that app enabled platforms like soundcloud, mixcloud, and spotify are being use more than dedicated streams. But, for running an independent stream, icecast is still pretty decent..
