From Havok@25:1/116 to all on Wed Sep 20 06:30:37 2023
I ran Renegade back in the day, but I see all kinds of versions being
run here in this msg network and on other networks.

So I have to ask being I got the bug to play with Renegade again what
version should I start out with and another question what front end
do you folks use the most?

    Thanks...

There really is no right or wrong version of RG to use. Try to avoid stuff before 98-101D. Only releases by Exodus are official and worth using.

Likewise! Hope all is well in life?

32-bit Windows, from XP to 10.

You can run Renegade on DOS emulators for 64-bit Windows and Linux but you may find that DOS doors and file transfer protocols may not run correctly or run poorly. Renegade was designed for 16-bit MS-DOS so it needs a 32-bit OS.

Better off slapping together an old PC or spin up a virtual-machine on Vmware, Oracle Virtualbox or Qemu running XP dedicated to just running your BBS.

www.rgbbs.info ... most current version of RG is 1.33/DOS which I released in May of this year.

    Or download it from here.

I uploaded files in a file area I have it set arc/cmd type zip / :
FILE_ID.DIZ but it doesn't pull the file_id.diz information into
    the database?
Also Bulletin board list, you can't put in any extended information.

You have to remember 35 years or so I have a learning curve again.

    Thanks...

PKZIP/UNZIP in your path set in the system config. If something was zipped with a newer version of PKZIP it causes issue as well. PKZIP 2.5 is the most current DOS pkzip.

Check the docs on that one, I haven't set that kinda stuff up since I was an alpha and found no use for it really. As far as I remember, we never changed the code on this, so it should be the same as far back as 1998.

... Think of it as evolution in action.
