Just been poking around some boards. And you know what I came to realize?!?! I CANNOT STAND Synchronet's or WildCats! file listing. Who in their damn mind thought it was a cool idea to make the list show only ONE friggin LINE of a description. Atleast on WildCat! I can fix this issue, b
One-liner descriptions never bothered me... actually its when Diz's started getting beyond 5 or 10 lines or whatever that it just got borderline retard
But that Wildcrap yellow... good christ almighty.

NOPE ... almost every Synch board I call and view files, it's always stupid ONE LINE descrptions and you have to view each description ON by ONE .... argh! End of rant. ;)

When the 1st line starts as "----------------------" or is just blank, it's friggin' killer! ;)

Now comeon ... show #14 some love. ;)

I have *never* seen a modded Wildcrap board, ever. Makes me think its not e possible.

That's the default but you can change that on a Sync board. Hit & from the transfer menu and then E to enable extended descriptions.

I was just about to point out the same thing. I have my SBBS board configured with extended descriptions enabled for everyone by default.
What SBBS does lack, however, is a nicer way of browsing and paging
through the file lists; it only seems to page forward but not back. There are a few mods out there for enhanced listing, but the ones I tried seemed kinda buggy so I ended up sticking with the stock file list.
Why would that be a default?!?! That's retarded. ;) Thanks for the tip tho.
That is the case with both messages and files. You can go forward but not back although you can always re-read.
I think nightfox has a full screen reader for the message areas and you can page up or down when reading messages. He wrote something like that for file areas too but I have never had a look at it so I'm not sure if that would look backwards.

Their file systems aren't as bad as their message base systems - especially Wildcat. I have never found it convenient to read messages on any of those boards. Their FSE is fine I guess, but what for? ;)
there's good programmers and creative people. and there's not usually a mix of the 2. i was creative and smart enough to work out what i wanted.
i think wildcat and synchronet's file systems are great. renegade is the one with the fucked filebases. man, i miss filedude.
i'm not a fan of how you search and read msgs on wildcat.

I like your BBS but I just like to hassle people.
Have you ever seen BBBS? (Prizm BBS ran it.) I like that one. It serves the BBS on webpages (in addition to serving it with telnet.) The only thing tha sucks about it is they charge for a license and I don't wanna pay it any ti soon.
I heard that the same thing can be accomplished with Synchronet. Have you tried any of that shit?

It's got a telnet server and a web server, so users are able to do everythi (except for doors probably) on the web (log-in, read messages, post message
Can I achieve all that with Synchronet too? Or just export data and show it the web?

Thanks. I tried the website, and it looks similar to the way BBBS works. I should give Synchronet's web server another try.
who has a bbbs on the web? i'd like to see how their interface works.
Nobody anymore. Janic Kracht (a lady who never had a handle) ran it on a BB called "Prizm BBS" and that's where I saw it in action. But she has since taken her BBS down.
