From Daryl Stout@454:1/33 to Barry Martin on Wed Mar 9 04:25:00 2022
    Barry,

    Ben met Anna.
    Made a hit.
    He didn't shave.
    Ben Anna Split.
    Burma Shave.

Ben just couldn't stand Anna being hairy than him!

That's like the meme where this guy's in bed with this woman, and he sees this picture of a gruff man on the nightstand next to the bed. He panics, thinking it's her boyfriend, that's going to barge in on them. Well, he
REALLY panics when she replies "That's not my boyfriend. That's me before
    the operation".

Can you say "Oh, <expletive!>"?? Yet, I feel like that guy in the bed
right now...please pardon me while I rant for a few minutes.

On another note, I'm going to stick with getting stuff locally, or just do without it. The cellphone I had ordered with Consumer Cellular was shipped Thursday, and was supposed to arrive on Saturday...I even paid extra to have
it sent Express Mail...what a waste of money that proved to be.

Well, it didn't show up until yesterday (Tuesday), and I got a note that "the phone was picked up/delivered", and I flew into a rage, screaming "NOT
BY ME IT WASN'T!!". I had signed up with Consumer Cellular to save $70 a
month compared to Verizon. Besides, they all piggy back off of each others towers, anyway.

So, when I go to the Post Office Box later this morning, that "picked up person" darn well better be the clerk there who put it in my Post Office
Box. If not, I'm calling the Little Rock Police Department, and initiating
a complaint on petty theft to the Post Office, and look to have someone arrested. I was so angry last night, that I could not see straight. Nature
and a nightmare woke me, so that's why I'm replying way before the butt
    crack of dawn.

In both cases of my reply...nothing is sacred or safe anymore. :P

With all the crap that the Post Office has done to me in losing items,
this one may take the cake. I had gotten a Post Office Box, as folks were stealing stuff out of my mailbox, and off my front porch. Well, I am now tempted to just cancel the Post Office Box when it comes up for renewal
in August, and have everything sent here. But, that means I'll have to
stay at home all day, and wait for the mail carrier to decide to show up.
I've seen them sit down at the end of the block for an hour, while this
part of his run is the last one. He apparently can't bring it on himself
to go ahead and complete his job before stopping for the day.

To those who work for the Postal Service who are reading this, you need
to fire all those slackers who aren't doing their job, and revoke their
hefty pensions. I don't care about the color of their skin...we all pee
the same yellow, poop the same brown, and bleed the same red. Those hefty pensions are why the Postal Service is so in debt right now. And, with
the poor service, they wonder why folks are going to email, FedEx, UPS,
    DHL, etc.

Well, if the phone was stolen, and I end up selling the car (I'll have to
if the glaucoma check next month shows major vision issues), and then end up losing the computer and internet, I'd be cut off from the outside world anyway, and no one would know if I was alive or dead (and I feel that they likely would not care...as they're tired of all my whining, complaining, bitching, etc.).

Then, if I was able to get and activate the phone (I'm not optimistic at
this point in time), it'd be a real PITA to have to notify all of these businesses and contacts of the new address (never mind if I have to change
the phone number with the cellphone company change), if I end up cancelling
the Post Office Box (even though it'd save at least $200 a year). It's going to be bad enough setting up the new phone (if it's even there). Again, if I can't get it locally, where I can pick it up, I'm going to do without it. I
no longer do any business with eBay, and may do likewise with Amazon.

Believe me, I would feel a lot better if the phone was in the Post Office
Box later this morning, and in good condition. But, with my luck, it's gone (stolen), or it's damaged. Stressed spelled backwards is desserts, but I'm wondering if I've become lactose intolerant...as if I need another medical issue. To me, a meal isn't complete without dessert...although breakast may
    be the exception.

A woman from my medical HMO Plan called yesterday, and she lamented that "according to Amazon, her address doesn't exist anymore". So, she had to
go through a bunch of hoops to get that mess straightened out. Her place hadn't been hit by a tornado, etc...I guess Google Earth could not find it anymore. :P

Next, Golden Corral sent me a coupon for "a free birthday buffet"...but "WITH the purchase of a second buffet". Well, that does me NO GOOD, as I
have no one to take with me, and really can't afford it. Nothing in this
life is FREE...Robert Heinlein was right with TANSTAFFL. I can't see going there to buy 2 buffets for myself...one would be plenty. Plus, the "Happy Birthday" songs they do now are so hokey and embarrassing.

I was so enraged last night, I was thinking of another lousy birthday present. Just like last year, when it was the plumbing incident, where I
cried for a week (I nearly hung up on my cousin when she called, and was contemplating suicide), I'm tempted to just shut everything down after my
ham radio net on March 22, after selling the car that day, and unplugging everything, and just disappearing. There has to be a reason why I'm still
here, but right now, I'm hard pressed to know why, with all the crap in
my life over the last 2 1/2 years since my Mom died.

I'm long overdue for something good to happen to me, and I feel as if
I've been cursed. I didn't mind being her caregiver and Power Of Attorney
(my brother wanted nothing to do with that...he just wanted his money)...
but after the rodents (field rats) worked their way into the structure
(I had to pay $7200 to get rid of them), to the car wreck, to the major plumbing incident, to this crap with the phone, I feel like the last part
    of "Today's Blooper"...

"The newlywed couple married last Sunday would like to thank everyone for coming to their wedding, and bringing their happiness to a conclusion."

As a side note...for the stuff with my Mom's care, it was the least that
I could do for her...after all she had done for me over the years.

It's so bad that I've cut myself down to a bland diet of 4 slices of wheat bread with butter, twice a day, washed down with lemon kool-aid, just so I
can take my medications. That's NOT very nutritious...and with so little
solid food, and so much fluid, my colon is in rebellion (you can guess where I'm spending most of my time now...but everyone feels I'm so full of crap, anyway)...never mind I'm a heart patient now.

I'm looking at what else I can cut out of my life...but if I get rid of
my hobbies (including the BBS), it's going to be awfully hard to find the
will to live. It burns me that the BBS may not survive until its 30th
    birthday on May 1.

My brother eats out every day, and can't understand why I can't do the
same. For one, he gets more on disability than I do, but he also spends
much of it on beer, tobacco, as well as eating out. He is like a caged
animal if he has to stay at home, as he has no hobbies at all. We were
raised in the same home, but we're as different as night and day (cue the
song by Cole Porter). He's also like my late father...he hates computers.

I'd love to go see my young lady friends at this area restaurant, and at church (I need a shoulder to cry on real bad right now), but I can't even afford that (that's part of the reason for the bland diet, as noted above). I've been a shoulder to cry on for so many others since my wife died 15
years ago, but when I've needed one, I've had no one...and I've had to suffer alone...and folks wonder why I'm depressed. I'm glad my Mom, my Dad, and my wife, are dead and gone, and not here to see me suffer. The song may note
that "Big Girls Don't Cry", but to me, "Real Men Do"...and I'm about to that point.

On the lack of being able to afford things, gas prices in some areas have jumped 50 cents in a day in the last 24 hours. I talked to a fellow ham radio operator who's an over the road truck driver, and he said he's having to pay nearly $6 a gallon for diesel fuel...about what regular gas is out in San Francisco right now...although it's likely much more.

President (I use the term loosely) Bite-Me (sarcasm intended) has caved to the environmentalists, and won't release the abundant oil that we have here, and allow drilling on federal lands, which would substantially lower the gas prices. He decided to wait until it became "politically expedient" for him
to ban the oil imports from Russia. There are a ton of politicians on both sides of the aisle who've decided to "jump ship", and not run for re-election in November.

Well, what are they going to do when there's no wind for the windmills to power things, and no electricity to charge the electric cars?? If North
Korea, or someone else sends an EMP over here, EVERYTHING GETS FRIED, and
we'll be "back in the stone age" for everything. All that "green" ecology environmental stuff is the same color as pale green of death, as with the fourth horse of the Apocalypse. According to the Book Of Revelation, the
fourth and fifth seals of judgment will result in death on a massive scale across the planet...likely 1/4, if not 1/2 of the total population. That
could be from 2 to 4 billion people who die!! It'll make all this crap with Covid-19 seem like a walk in the park.

I feel it's going to be a real bloodbath politically for the Democrats
come November. But, I hear rumors that the globalists are going to get the
US into a war with Russia with Ukraine, China with Taiwan, and possibly even North Korea. That would delay or cancel the elections, allowing all of the Dum-o-Craps (or is it Demon-Craps?? -- sarcasm intended on both counts) to stay in power. I hold the politicians in Washington, DC in utter contempt. They complain that they can't survive on $250,000+ a year (not to mention
all their medical insurance, travel perks, etc.). They don't have a clue. Before the election, they give voters the "thumbs up"...after they win,
they give voters "the bird"...that's vulgar, but it's true. You know darn
well they will NEVER let "term limits" see the light of day. Senators
Manchin and Sinema are the only ones with a good head on their shoulders
that I can see...the rest are just in it for the money and power.

Then, you have all these progressives that think "the free stuff" will
always be available. The thing is, it's like the supply shelf at the
grocery store, or the buffet bar at the restaurant. If someone isn't
there to replenish the items that have been taken, sooner more than later,
the deal will be empty, and the place will have to close down. When you confront these folks with the possibility of "things going dry", they
panic, because they don't have an answer...and can't comprehend things
running out...but "it's all about the math".

It's not your fault, but even the hobbies aren't a diversion any more. I
feel it's time I just go off, and cry for a week, if not more. Thanks for letting me rant. It's so bad that after I do the QWK Mail, the only thing
I may do on the BBS is update the weather data...and not even do any of
    the doorgames.

Speaking of weather, we're supposed to have rain changing to snow on
Friday, then a hard freeze over the weekend. All the folks who've planted their gardens early, are as furious as I am with this crap with the Post Office. My cousin in Erie, Pennsylvania, NEVER plants her garden until
AFTER Mother's Day...which is still 2 months away.

It was 82 here this past Sunday...and some areas of Arkansas paid the
price, with several tornadoes. The National Weather Service out of Little
Rock is still doing storm damage surveys on the event...and our tornado
season is just getting started. If I remember right, much of Iowa had
several tornadoes last Saturday. I hope you weren't affected by the storms.
The weather is so funky now, that I dread what the rest of tornado season... never mind hurricane season...is going to be like.

    As to the phone thing:

I switched to Ting. It uses Verizon or T-Mobile depending on which way
your phone swings. Most unlocked phones will work with Ting. It costs me $10/month (plus a couple bucks tax) for unlimited calls and text, no
data. (Data is extra. Or they have plans with data, but I only use the
phone at home so I have cellular data set to disabled, and it uses wifi instead.) Tech support is humans with clues, not bots and press 1 to

Cellular was shipped Thursday, and was supposed to arrive on
Saturday...I even paid extra to have it sent Express Mail...what
a waste of money that proved to be.

I would call to have the shipping charge refunded/credited. I'm getting
this Thursday morning so WAY overdue. Would be helpful to your cause if somewhere in their advertising it stated something like "Express
Shipping arrives 2-3 days". Of course they probably stuck the
weasel-word 'normally' in there but as you mentioned the expectation was Saturday then Monday would be the next business day; it's now almost a
week past the expected delivery date.... Yup, they need to give you
    back the extra money.

Well, it didn't show up until yesterday (Tuesday), and I got a

Besides, they all piggy back off of each others towers, anyway.

Oh darn: should have read ahead! Well, since I already screwed up let's
make it worse! <g> The "picked up/delivered" part may have been a Post
Office employee signing it was delivered to your Post Office Box at the
Post Office. (And on to your next section -- see how well I did!)

So, when I go to the Post Office Box later this morning, that

night, that I could not see straight. Nature and a nightmare woke
me, so that's why I'm replying way before the butt crack of dawn.

(Mmm: close! Looks to be a follow-up in tomorrow's mail.) I'm thinking
the police would refer you back to the Postmaster at your Post Office
and they do an investigation, sometimes with the Police. (That based on loosely being involved.)

In both cases of my reply...nothing is sacred or safe anymore. :P

WAG: there might be mandatory breaks. Towards the end when I was
working at the store the Meal Break had to be taken no longer than 5.00
hours past your clock-in time, exception was if with a customer and even
that was allowed only so many times. I think the Post Office is
unionized so they may even have that extended to the 15 minute break.
Or the carrier could be swapping shoes/boots: in this part of town they

As for FedEx, etc., they also have their issues.

He admitted it was the last part of his run, but he just couldn't finish
it first, then take his break.

All of the physical carriers are understaffed currently. From 'chats' with the local P.O.'s supervisors COVID took out a lot of carriers and they were understaffed to begin with. Personally I would not want to
be walking on sidewalks, etc., in the dark (icy patches, potential
stuff to stumble over) even with a flashlight. Here the street is
dark: no streetlights. We have some yard lighting.

I did get the streetlight repaired recently (after 3 tries)...it made
for a nice view last night as 2-4 inches of heavy wet snow fell here. Most
of it has melted off 24 hours later. Then, severe weather arrives late
Monday. Someone needs to get the weather calendar a Prozac.

As for FedEx, etc., they also have their issues.

They've never lost a shipment for me...I can't say the same for the Post Office.

Well, if becomes necessary to sell the car seems like now is a decent
time based on all the ads for car dealers wanting to buy and pay cash
for used cars. Checkout what transportation services are available for seniors, disabled, etc.

I can get one via Lyft via Consumer Cellular...but I'll wait to see what
the eye exam shows next month.

If you need to sell your car you may need to do all that as you can no longer just drive to the Post Office a couple times a week to pick up
    your mail.

Even once a week via Lyft would work. I saw where Uber is adding an additional surcharge, due to the high gasoline prices.

Some breakfast offerings probably have more sugar and sweetness than
    the other meals' desserts!

It's rare I eat breakfast, unless I'm out early.

Hopefully your phone is waiting for you at the Post Office.

It was...it doesn't have many accessories with it, but I'm learning
how to work with it. The migration of data from the Verizon phone was
    easier than expected.

I'd probably have to walk away and take time to think things over.
Might come to the conclusion the remainder of the relationship is worth 'overlooking' a detail. Not that the detail would be banished.

The good news is if they forget the contraceptive don't have to worry about a little one.
    That's true...but I would've been spooked by her response.

I htink just about everybody would be!

I would call to have the shipping charge refunded/credited. I'm
The way the Post Office email worded it, it sounded like it was
    stolen.

Or misheard or misinterpreted: a term might mean one thing to one person
and something different to another. ...Thinking of a message on the
answering machine I received years back. Was about some pain I was
having after I broke my leg: I heard it as "it's just due to the
rotting". The word was "rodding", referring to the rod/implant
    procedure.

(Mmm: close! Looks to be a follow-up in tomorrow's mail.) I'm
thinking the police would refer you back to the Postmaster at your Post Office and they do an investigation, sometimes with the Police. (That based on loosely being involved.)
Thankfully, I didn't have to call the police.

    Good.

WAG: there might be mandatory breaks. Towards the end when I was
working at the store the Meal Break had to be taken no longer than 5.00 hours past your clock-in time, exception was if with a customer and
even that was allowed only so many times. I think the Post Office is unionized so they may even have that extended to the 15 minute break.
Or the carrier could be swapping shoes/boots: in this part of town they also deliver to the individual houses; other parts have the cluster
    boxes.
He admitted it was the last part of his run, but he just
couldn't finish it first, then take his break.

Another that didn't look/seem quite right at first but had a logical explanation.

I did get the streetlight repaired recently (after 3
tries)...it made for a nice view last night as 2-4 inches of
heavy wet snow fell here. Most of it has melted off 24 hours
later. Then, severe weather arrives late Monday. Someone needs to
get the weather calendar a Prozac.

You sure you want it to 'chill out'?! We have don't any snow in the
forecast; maybe the end of the month. "You want a April Fool's surprise?
I'll give you an April Fool's surprise!!" - Mother Nature.

As for FedEx, etc., they also have their issues.
They've never lost a shipment for me...I can't say the same for
    the Post Office.

I don't recall them loosing a shipment but have had them cause damage.

Well, if becomes necessary to sell the car seems like now is a decent
time based on all the ads for car dealers wanting to buy and pay cash
for used cars. Checkout what transportation services are available for seniors, disabled, etc.
I can get one via Lyft via Consumer Cellular...but I'll wait to
see what the eye exam shows next month.
If you need to sell your car you may need to do all that as you can no longer just drive to the Post Office a couple times a week to pick up
    your mail.
Even once a week via Lyft would work. I saw where Uber is
adding an additional surcharge, due to the high gasoline prices.

Only so much of the expenses can be absorbed. ...One thing to check is
how the Lyft/Uber (anyone else?) feel about packages. One thing to have
a small shoebox, another a Bankers Box or larger. And will they wait
for you while you're in line at the Post Office? Hauling groceries is
another 'kettle of fish': way too easy to have a bag fall over and there
goes all over the place! (One 'trick' I do is to tie the top closed
using the handles of the plastic bag.)

Hopefully your phone is waiting for you at the Post Office.
It was...it doesn't have many accessories with it, but I'm
learning how to work with it. The migration of data from the
Verizon phone was easier than expected.

    That's good!
