Just received one of those Nigerian scam e-mails -- just a bank
official, guess I'm not worthy of being written to by a prince! Didn't
think they were still going around!

Earthlink uses Norton's enterprise antivirus/spamtrap. It's been
very good for a long time; I hadn't seen more than the odd one or
two of these Nigerian spams a year in about 20 years.
A few months ago suddenly I was getting a LOT of these
old-fashioned Nigerian spams, and the common factor was that ALL
came from some random GMail address.
I whined at Earthlink in Large Block Letters (got escalated,
even), and reported bales of them as spam, and the problem
finally went away again.
But I'm thinkin' since it wasn't just Earthlink, that it was a
failure in Norton's spamtrap software, that was automatically
passing everything sent from GMail as not-spam.
And obviously we can't just blacklist GMail, too many Real People
use it. So the fix was waiting for Norton to do something about
it, and probably a pending update for smaller customers.
