    Hi Nancy!

States where things opened too fast and people were being sloppy are indeed having spikes again in their Covid counts.... So far NY is
staying the course, and almost fully reopened again.... but there is a fairly good compliance with the safety guidelines that accompany each phase of the openings... Some of it might be overkill, and there is
some laxity in total implementation, but overall, most are being
careful for themselves and for others' sakes... :)
Good! There have been slight spikes regionally -- zero deaths in Iowa reported over the weekend and then three reported yesterday (Monday)
-- possibly the weekend had something to do with the numbers reporting?
Possible.... those are still decent numbers though....

Unfortunately since then a bit of spike on both side of the River.

And bet there will be a spike in Rock Island County (IL) as they
opened a drive-through COVID-19 test clinic yesterday -- where up to
500 people can be tested per day; those people might not have been
tested otherwise and I'd bet a few are going to test positive, so
    spike!
As long as they don't need hospitalization, it's more a getting a
better picture of the situation, so not really a spike... :)

The news had an interview with a higher-level official at the Genesis Healthcare System (the one predominating on the Iowa side) and he
indicated there were enough beds available as nothing major happened to
the COVID-19 numbers (obviously wasn't phrased that way), and if need be
would be postponing elective surgeries to open up beds.

Hopefully I'm all wet in that assumption, though at this point I'd
rather be thought as an eccentric Howard Hughes-like germaphobe.
I don't go quite that far, but we do follow the guidelines pretty
    much.... :)
Right. I'm more for the no-touch than the cover with mask, though
LISB4 if a mask is preferred/required I'll put mine on without whining. Well, I have joked it messes up my beard!
Some inconveniences we just have to deal with.... <G>

    I suppose! <g>

Y'think?! :) The candy is more of an occasionally treat, though
don't really need an occasion to be treated! <g> This week with
Father's Day was expecting and did have a cake (about half was brought
home and still some left), so the candy became the cake. Plus made
brownies earlier in the week -- no real need for candy!
Pretty well set for sweets, true... :) If there was a sale, or you
had a coupon, that might push the candy higher on the list, but for
    now not so needed.... :)
Yes: I'm pretty much on the outlook for a decent sale, and the longer
it stores the better. Back to candy more specifically, pretty good at
the storage, sufficient room in the cabinet in the basement where cool. ...Was getting some crackers "from the store in the basement" (yes,
bought on sale, didn't need when bought but not on sale lately) and
saw a box of candy from my Vienna trip last summer. Tempting!
And candy doesn't last forever... it can go stale if you keep it
    too long... <G>

Just another good reason to eat it! ...There's still a chocolate rabbit
from Easter -- he was placed in the refrigerator when the weather
    started getting hot.

Right, which makes sense. Overall self-protection, or at least for
most of us, so natural distancing to keep the stranger at a distance,
but that conflicts with our social nature of closeness.
Today at church someone I regularly would exchange hugs with decided
he was ready for hugging again... after a quick think, I decided I
was too... it's been too long without hugs.... ;)
The hug does a lot of good! As long as both healthy and agree to it.
Exactly... and that factored in... both of us quite well, both kinda
ready to take the chance... :)
I think the mentally healthier idea is to consider the people one
knows as healthy unless know they are/have been recently sick.
Strangers -- well "stranger danger" applies!
Of course... :) And I don't generally go out hugging strangers
anyway, even in "normal" times... :)

    No, normally not.

couple weeks ago for a few items; cart from inside, probably cleaned
(I'm remember seeing a sign), but did a quick wipe anyway. 2› worth of
hand sanitizer now might save me a bunch of grief later!
Doesn't hurt to be a little extra cautious... :) Probably wouldn't
be an issue if one didn't do it, but doesn't hurt to do either... :)
Right. The probability of an infected cart is very low, just IMO I
don't want to engage that chance, especially when so easy just to
squirt and wipe with a bit of cleaner. I haven't seen anyone else
doing the same with the outside carts; have seen customers wiping their cart when they obtain inside. And not the customers aren't taking that kind of precaution, I'm just not there at the right time to observe.
Yeah... and you don't usually snoop all the time anyway... ;)

    Nope, not that bored!

And candy doesn't last forever... it can go stale if you keep it too
    long... <G>

In cleaning up the kitchen yesterday, I found a container of OLD
Oreos. I just sealed it back up, and put the whole thing in the trash.

Cookies and crackers are even worse for going stale....

Of course... :) And I don't generally go out hugging strangers
anyway, even in "normal" times... :)

The first night of square dance lessons, all these women I didn't
even know were giving me hugs...what we call "yellowrocks". I thought "What have I gotten myself into??!!". But, after graduation, it was
more like "Next, please!!". One of the married ladies I dance with said she was real nervous about strange men hugging her...but eventually as
she got to know folks, it was "I could get to like this". <G>

Those, by definition, aren't strangers... maybe at the beginning, but
    not for long.... ;)

Both sides of the River still increasing in cases and deaths; the good
news is not as fast, so leveling off some. And now with schools
starting shortly there is concern of another spike. At this point
Autumn will be staying home, being schooled virtually, at least until
    October.

Right, and I haven't heard of anything being postponed or delayed; might
be slightly longer to get scheduled because of extra distancing, etc.,
    but not like before.

<chuckle> And now he's not: got eaten over a couple day period.

True: thinking club dancefloor and may be dancing together but no real interaction. Square dancing, OTOH, lots of interaction: following the caller's instructions, dancers need to align with others.
