    Barry,

    ... "He-hehe-hehe, 2400 baud!" -- V.bis and Baudhead.
I remember when we had 9600 and 14.4, and we thought we were
"smokin'". <G> And, only Sysops can get "enjoyment" over hearing
the sound effect of a dial-up modem connecting. <G>

    Screeeeech, squawksch! Boing! Boing!

... Oh, give me a phone, with a modem on loan...

The phone is rotary, but the modem is square. <G>

No boing-boing -- no wonder he didn't connect. Maybe was on 7E1
    instead of 8N1.

So? They put round pizzas in square boxes!

Well, he was connecting to an ISP and not to a BBS. I remember
the Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 100 laptop allowed you to change
the start bits, stop bits, and parity settings...but 8N1 I think
    is the most common.

Don't trip over the cables. <G>

... I tried an internal modem, but it hurt when I walked.
