He seems to come through as a lot better now his new system is being
build: there's light at the end of the black hole!
    Um... yeah... good simile... <G>

I still think that light is a train entering the tunnel. :P

Hopefully not... just the sunlight at the end of the tunnel... :)

And as I mentioned in yesterday's set of messages, apparently setting
up ILink on his computer let another batch out to here, from Apr
    18th...

Yeah, the system crashed just after April 18...and didn't get back
    up until just before June.

That's pretty much what I figured... and the May messages were done while
you were still pretty much down... Not a problem... they finally all
went out, and now things seem to be working for you again... :)

Last I mentioned anything he seemed to pretty much dismiss the
    user-only aspect.
Not really surprising... From what I've seen, once a sysop, it gets
into one, and never lets go... ;)

    That's right.

Yup... bad enough for us addicted users.... gotta be worse for a
    sysop... <G>

This is just too important to him really to let it go too easily...
and with other people pulling for him too there's encouragement to
    continue... :)
Agree. LIS it's sort of the get knocked down, OK, enough is enough I
give up, ...no, I will not give up! and he comes back fighting.
Yup, the funk doesn't last too long....

    I took Mangling Metaphors 101 and 102!

You mean it wasn't from Creative Metaphors 201....? ;)

do the repair. He powered up to test and the system would usually do
the automated BBS events -- he half-knew what they were/why occurring
but had to wait a few minutes for them to complete. I don't have any
auto-posts but could see where when Daryl was getting back on-line all
the missed events would trigger and so be uploaded.
And as I mentioned in yesterday's set of messages, apparently setting
up ILink on his computer let another batch out to here, from Apr 18th...
Not unusual for the mail tossers to 'get confused' and think old mail
is new if a flag/bit isn't set or recognized. ...I've had more than a
few times where my e-mail on Q.com (Qwest --> CenturyLink) has been re-re-re downloaded because of a change on their end. ...So a thousand and some messages later........

But these weren't dupes... I recognized them as ones that hadn't come
thru before... He had a few points there where the computer was
obviously on enough for him to be able to be reading/answering mail, but
then not able to actually send it out until later, and it stacked up
    some... ;)

Last I mentioned anything he seemed to pretty much dismiss the
    user-only aspect.

    There is something!

Just being a bbs user is addictive enough... <G>

    Nancy,

I still think that light is a train entering the tunnel. :P

Hopefully not... just the sunlight at the end of the tunnel... :)

I've had my hopes and dreams dashed so many times, it has gotten so
hard to be an optimist...even though I was part of the Optimist Club
(youth sports) in south Florida. :P I was the equipment manager of the
football team, and also worked the concession stand at games.

That's pretty much what I figured... and the May messages were done
while you were still pretty much down... Not a problem... they finally
all went out, and now things seem to be working for you again... :)

Now, if I can keep it that way.

Yup... bad enough for us addicted users.... gotta be worse for a
    sysop... <G>

It really is. The hobbies of the BBS, ham radio, and square dancing
(the latter with publications and websites)...all via computer and the internet...are the only things keeping me sane.
