My guess is start with the wheelchair to keep weight off the broken
ankle until suitably mended to bear some weight, or with the knee
scooter so the weight of the foot hanging doesn't cause pain. And
maybe to see if the patient likes to 'peel out' with the wheelchair not
to give them the knee scooter!
That latter is just a bit far-fetched.... but she probably did have
to keep weight off the sprained ankle for a while first.... the
broken ankle she still wasn't allowed any weight on when she got the
scooter...
The ankle being a pile of bones strapped together with pretty much all
of the body weight on top probably makes it more difficult to mend.
I've spained both ankles numerous times over the years -- fortunately
not at the same time -- and <knock on wood!> never broken, though at
least once probably came real close.
When it's a clean break, and no ligament tears, keeping it immobilizedLots of variables (as always). Closest I've done is sprain/strain my ankles and pretty much able to hobble on them immediately. Of course
in a boot can be enough once healing starts... Another friend at
church broke his ankle shortly after I broke mine, and he was able to
walk on his much sooner than I or Barb were...
the boney supporting structure was intact, just the wrappings holding together was damaged.
And had it been a bad enough sprain/strain, you might have had to
reduce how much weight-bearing you gave it anyway....
Long-time customer who is nice and follows the rules; maybe the
manager stretched his rules a bit in appreciation. :)
Possibly.... and might have just been some factor we weren't all that
aware of, that was allowed under the warranty....
As long as it worked out for you. May have been as simple as
'lifetime structural warranty excepting the tread'. Just guessing:
I've always had to replace tires because of tread wear -- well except
the one time of that idiot with the knife.
Mine have been either tread wear or road hazard damage, too... UnlessOr might be better to not say anything until the next replacement is needed. Might be too long since the replacement and saying a thank
I think to ask Joe, and he remembers, we probably won't know... :)
you now might be interpreted as setting up for a getting a discount
next time. When needed thanking him again and 'any possibility the old tires qualify?' casual remark may be more appropriate. Or when seeing
him a light comment on how good the new tires handle, and even better
the manufacturer paid for a part. All depends on the situation.
Most likely, I just won't think of it when I see him... ;)
Exactly... as long as you have your driving unde control, what they
think isn't particularly important.... <G>
Plus if they should question it I have a valid reason: safety.
...Probably won't be concerned about slippery road conditions until
next year: beginning of April, though has snowed, and essentially can't
go anywhere.
Yup... we're getting out of the season for that now... :)I don't know about that: the forecast is for windy conditions (up to
45-50 MPH) this afternoon (Easter Sunday) and some accumulating snow overnight.
True... and this morning, the morning announcer was telling of
scads of accidents that were happening due to the the icy
roads.... didn't get a lot of snow, but it was pretty cold, and I
guess the roads were pretty treacherous before the sun took care
of the snowfall....

With this message, I appear to be all caught up.... I've not had

been conversing with Ky in the echo, so you seem to be around...
It's ok to start replying now... just not all at once... <G>

Still heat index of around 100 to 105 today (June 9), but after
a strong cold front (by June standards) comes through tonight, temperatures and humidities will drop a bit. Highs in the 80s and
lows in the low 60s, with no rain expected through at least early

Sorry: I thought the oven was set low enough!
Alaska's the cold one, Arizona's the hot one, and Arkansas is the wet
one!
The capital of Missouri is "M"... <g> I probably had memorized the capitols at one time but those had been encased in brainy cobwebs some time ago, I did have a weird memorization: I knew the ZIP codes of
most of the cities and towns in area surrounding where my parents and I lived at the time. Wasn't 'for fun', was practical: my Mother was
sending out Christmas cards and the address book didn't have. <write write> "Barry! What's the ZIP code for Litchfield?" "03052."
Here Monday the 8th was in the 90's: I think the official high was 91ø
or 92ø but the digital thermometer at the house displayed 99ø. No
biggie other than that was the day the roofers were here to replace the shingles from the hail storm a while back. They didn't seem to mind
the heat. Tuesday (yesterday as I type) much cooler with highs in the
mid 80's. Cristobal did wander through and cooled things off plus some did some watering -- not sure how much rain we got; they were
predicting around three-quarters of an inch.
Of course not! Everyone knows one uses the garden hose!

Yes: all in the practice/accustomization. I'm semi-fine on a ladder,
as long as I have something to hold on to and I feel secure. The
wiggling of the ladder at the wrong time is not well-received! And the
muscle/nerve damage to the leg as a teen-ager doesn't help.
No, that wouldn't help... I can go maybe a few rungs up on a wooden
ladder, or use a kitchen stepstool, but an aluminum ladder is unsteady
enough that it magnifies my shaking, which helps not at all....
Not at all!! I can go up and down, though admit it's somewhat of a
hanging on for dear life!
I let others do the climbing as much as possible... ;)Yes, for me now anything beyond a step ladder generally isn't worth
the risk.

Other way around, our weather is cooler than yours... so we have to

You've been getting warmer weather sooner and more reliably (and

both been getting... yours might go a little lower, though... I think
I've mentioned before that your weather seems to have more extremes
than ours, by and large....
Yes, we do seem to have much more of a temperature swing. To me just
normal. Did hear some overview: path of the Jet Stream, tilt of the
Earth, in conjuction with our location.
And then, this month, we went from wintry to ok to Summery! and backI've had the window up here open during the last several days because

record, and then was 90ø on Tuesday... in the 80s the next 3 days, and

True, though "Austria" and "Australia" are somewhat close enough to be confused. ..Maybe like the old luggage joke: I went to Cincinnati, my luggage went to Tokyo, Istanbul....
Has been at the 90's the past couple of days and forecast for the rest
of the week. Have been keeping the house closed and running the
central air. I try to keep the window a/c's in the Computer Room and Master Bedroom off as much as possible to keep the electric bill down
but that's also one reason for the Budget Plan: have the "extra" for
when need.
I'm thinking so. No one looks "seat belt wrinkled".
Not Quites: people who followed the Lord were called the 12 opossums.

This guy wanted to sets of tickets...one for himself and one

places. When the airline ticket agent said that they don't do
that, the man replied "You did that to me last time!!". <G>
Has been at the 90's the past couple of days and forecast for the rest
of the week. Have been keeping the house closed and running the
central air. I try to keep the window a/c's in the Computer Room and Master Bedroom off as much as possible to keep the electric bill down
but that's also one reason for the Budget Plan: have the "extra" for
when need.
Thank God for levelized billing on the electric and
gas...that'll be especially true when I can get that generator.
I'm thinking so. No one looks "seat belt wrinkled".
Or like the guy who was pulled over by the State Trooper, and
he told the officer that he always wore his seat belt. To which,
the officer asked "Do you always weave it through the steering
wheel like that??". <G>
Not Quites: people who followed the Lord were called the 12 opossums.
That's why you have to be quiet in church...people are
sleeping. <G>
That's like the joke of a guy at the end of the pew, snoring
away blissfully during the sermon. His wife repeatedly nudges
him, trying to wake him up. Finally, she nudges him so hard, it
knocks him out of the pew into the aisle. When asked if he was
OK, the man said "Hit me again. I can still hear him". <G>
Well since it does say 'weather' up there (or at least it did on my
other screen!) they are reporting today (July 8) is going to be the hottest so far this year with temperatures in the mid-90's but the humidity waaay up there and heat index approaching 110ø. (Just wait
until later this Summer!)
This guy wanted to sets of tickets...one for himself and one
for his luggage, to make sure they don't get sent to different
places. When the airline ticket agent said that they don't do
that, the man replied "You did that to me last time!!". <G>
I wonder if they can share the Flight Mileage Points?!

Yes, LIS we have the Budget Plan (levelizing billing) also and makes it
a lot easier to pay, plus don't have the fear of clicking the
thermostat up or down a degree or two if getting unusually cold or hot.

It's not sleeping but subliminally absorbing of the lecture material!

I kept the topic the same. <G> Our hottest part of the year
isn't for another 5 weeks at least. South Arkansas is under a
Heat Advisory today, and more are likely in the coming days for
more of the state...including Excessive Heat Watches And
Warnings.

You wouldn't think that would make that much of a difference. I
keep thinking of the editorial cartoon, where the weather outside
is just delightful, and the couple is not running the air
conditioner or the heater. The staff from the electric and gas
companies come to their door, begging them to use some stuff. <G>

Always. Sort of like the time I asked to this woman I knew at a
square dance festival, if she was looking for a man. I should
have added "to dance with"...but didn't. She looked at me,
winked, grinned, and said "Always"...<blush mode activated>. :P
It's been about ten degrees cooler here since the thunderstorm system passed through Thursday night. (OK Pandora, since you played 'Bad Moon Rising' when Daryl typed about no restroom s how about 'Stormy
Weather'? ...OK, "Watch the Sky" is coming up in two!)

The last few days on the classical music station, they've
played "Summer" from "The Four Seasons" by Vivaldi. Years ago,
The Weather Channel used that behind tornado videos.

That'd be my luck. Although if everyone flew nude, you wouldn't
have to be overly concerned of concealed items at the checkpoint;
but some have been known to shove things up orifices. :P
But, with all going on nowadays, I have basically given up on
dating and remarriage.

Hate to be TSA checking!

Staying the six foot social distancing away isn't all that romantic!

As screwy as the weather has been lately, you have to wonder. I
saw where it hit 128 in Death Valley, California (last year, at
nearby Furnace Valley, it hit 134). It was so hot that cars were
breaking down from overheating...and it wouldn't surprise me if
the pavement of blacktop/asphalt started melting.
Yet, I thought asphalt was when you hit the tennis ball with
your butt. <G>

The X-Ray scanner likely will detect it...but I'd hate to have
to go in and remove it. :P

Staying the six foot social distancing away isn't all that romantic!
That's true. At least with the ham radio in the bedroom (which
is also "my shack"), I don't need to worry about masks, gloves,
or social distancing, when "on the air". The same goes for the
publication work for square dancing, or for BBSing. Besides, I'm
the only one here.
the pavement of blacktop/asphalt started melting.
Quite possible! Found this:
The asphalt or bitumen aggregate on road surface will begin to SOFTEN
not 'MELT' until they hit a temperature of around 50ø C (120øF).
However, even on a sunny day in the 20ø Cs (70øF) can be enough to
generate 50ø C on the ground as the dark asphalt road surface absorbs
a
lot of heat and this builds up during the day.
Yet, I thought asphalt was when you hit the tennis ball with
your butt. <G>
I thought it was constipation!
The X-Ray scanner likely will detect it...but I'd hate to have
to go in and remove it. :P
Me too, though some people don't seem to mind as much. Suppose their attitude is "it's a job, not a doody". <rs!>
Which reminds me, did those rats finally move out and leave you alone?

That doesn't surprise me. Plus, for pets, it burns their paw
pads. Then, I have to wonder why folks want "black
vehicles"...the dark color absorbs the heat, and makes it even
hotter inside. If the car is closed up, I think it could get so
hot, that the windows would explode.

That, too...but if you're consonated, you need a vowel
movement.

Really...they must have a crappy outlook on life.
Seems we've gone down this road before...it looks familiar. :P
Which reminds me, did those rats finally move out and leave you alone?
Nope. Found one caught on a glue board on Wednesday, trying to
get off. But, the glue is so strong, that he didn't have a
chance. Thankfully, the bug man from Terminix was here, and I
gave him a bag and portable gloves to take the glue board and the
dying rat to his demise. They likely are looking for food and
water, but I don't have any food out in the open, and they
apparently got in through the plumbing, so there's no water in
that toilet.
Yes for burning the pets' paws. Not so sure about my first dog as I
was rather young and don't remember but my second dog I had as an adult and remember a lot better. Did take for walks but didn't force her to walk any place specific, so if she did get on a too-hot pavement or sidewalk she could decide to walk on the cooler grass.
I wonder if "Wheel of Fortune" and any other word puzzle games have had 'dirty' words come up accidentally. Probably so, and I'd guess just
not show the board for a while.
Really...they must have a crappy outlook on life.
Though for some that creates their paycheck, so they should be happy.
Seems we've gone down this road before...it looks familiar. :P
So it's a deja view!
Darn. Was sort of hoping they all moved out. Assuming the plumbing
entry is the sewer line as the hot and cold water lines would seem to
be too narrow, though the critters can squeeze through narrow openings.

The dachshund my friends have is smart enough to not walk on
the sunny pavement...but, he also hates walking when the grass is
wet, or there's standing water...as there is today from
thunderstorms. The BBS was down overnight and this morning for
storms, and while there's a lull now, the radar looks like it has
measles, and more storms are on the way.

Yep...tagline in the making. <G>

And, they have sharp teeth as well. Plus, they carry such
things as rabies and typhoid.
Tuesday morning we had those two 'bucket pours' of rain. Rest of the
day cloudy with the occasional mist-drizzle. I did do some weeding -- despite the deluge the ground wasn't all that wet. Shrubs were damp / water droplets hanging so didn't do anything with them; grass was surprisingly not all that wet.

You can't spray pesticide, weed killer, if the lawn and
vegetation are overly wet.

Both. Rats are also smart and cautious, but mice are curious
and stupid. When one got caught in a trap, I'm sure his name
wasn't Elvis.

Yes. My cousin probably would have suggested NK for Austria's postal
abbreviation: No Kangaroos! The Austrians do make a joke of being
mixed up with Australia: post cards, t-shirts, etc., will have a
silhouette of a kangaroo overlaid with the slashed circle and other
joke references.
Ok for souvenirs, but one would think that for official something
more reasonable would be better, like the .at instead... ;)
Yes: fine for the joke reminder, for official anything definitely not.
Besides, one never knows... there might be a kangaroo in an AustrianWith the sign "I'm lost!" <g> ...Apparently there was an incident in
zoo.... ;)
2018 and they don't know where the kangaroo came from: https://mashable.com/article/kangaroo-on-the-loose-austria/
Checking stuff: Kirchschlag is about a 1« hour drive east of Vienna; that's some hopping!
As for mail I doubt if the icon would even be considered: mail sorting
is generally automated and the machines just 'look' at the address.
Even when human intervention is needed (machine unable to sort) AFAIK
it's generally a picture of the envelope front and the person doing
the reading would probably ignore anything but the address portion, or
certainly isn't allowed the time to admire a slashed kangaroo. And
probably wouldn't 'get' the meaning as dealing with Albania,
Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, etc., etc.
Postal mail tends to have its own set of official abbreviations...True, though "Austria" and "Australia" are somewhat close enough to be confused. ..Maybe like the old luggage joke: I went to Cincinnati, my luggage went to Tokyo, Istanbul....
and one can always be more careful and spell it out entirely... ;)
And now, with it being July 4th, things are really hot again... highHas been at the 90's the past couple of days and forecast for the rest
80s yesterday and today, and 90 and above for next week... Not sure
if we can stay on top of cooling the house overnight... and we don't
have A/C at all except in my car...

The male meteorologist on this morning's news even
said he was hot and perspiring slightly on the way in to the studio and
that shift starts around 3 -- on air he was wearing a long sleeved
dress shirt, suit and tie -- don't know what he wears in.
He might "dress up" there at the studio before going on air... atI'm thinking so. No one looks "seat belt wrinkled".
least that's probably airconditioned... :)
Anyway, dry when they were here; shingling is done and looks nice. Now
just waiting for the trim: gutters, awnings, etc. Got a call yesterday
from the coordinating company hired by the insurance company saying
there's going to be a wait as running behind. At least the important
part is done.
As long as it gets done reasonably expeditiously... ;)
Yes. And might be "anyone can shingle" but special equipment is
needed to form the gutters and window sills..
Possibly...See what happens. Not going to 'push' too hard in July but if nothing done by the beginning of August will talk with the insurance agent to
get things goin. OTOH theoretically the coordingating contractor
isn't getting paid except for what we paid for the deductible until the job is completed. so that would seem like an incentive.
We prefer not to use weed killer for general application: most tends to kill the desired vegetation: have Creeping Charlie and from what we're read whatever would kill it would also kill the clover. We like the clover! (And so does the rabbit.)

One can tell Spring has arrived with the budding of the orange barrels!

All July has been mostly too hot... only had the occasonal night
cool enough to make much difference in the house... Thankfully
restaurants are starting to open for eat in, so we've gone out a
number of times just for a leisurely meal in lovely cool air-conditioning... ;)
