    Barry,

Possibly the 'grossness' of Dad's pipe subtly turned me off from
smoking, or I just wan't 'programmed' to smoke. ...Have friends who BM>smoke, just arrange ourselves so I don't get the smoke.

To me, kissing a smoker is like licking an ash tray. If that isn't
gross, I don't know what is.

Where I'm thinking of are the medium-to-large restaurants which are BM>essentially fancy big boxes with permanently closed windows. Could be BM>the heat or air turning on and off, could also be other patrons entering BM>or leaving and subtly changing the air flow. Just one of those details
I notice and generally no one else does until I mention something.

The only thing I want smoking or steaming is my food...think sizzling
    fajitas at Applebee's. <G>

... Where in the nursery rhyme does it say Humpty Dumpty is an egg?

It is all a big yolk. :P

I didn't sneak (or even do it blatantly! <rs!>) and don't recall being
told not to do it, but perhaps a bit of reverse psychology on Dad's
part as I would sometimes help clean his pipe: soggy filter in the
stem, crusty gunk in the bowl. Will admit filling his tobacco pouch
the fresh tobacco did sometimes smell decent but a little 'off'.
Cleaning his pipe could well have turned you off... ;) Richard used
to smoke a pipe, don't think his had the filter in the stem... but not
all that attractive a job to clean it either... I was never attracted

Here the Mississippi is rising again; predictions for possibly a foot

level may not sound like much but flood stage locally is 15', so were
were almost eight feet higher than a level considered a flood.

I've been up for a few hours, OTOH I probably go to bed earlier than you
do. All depends on the person: when I was growing up my Mother used to
get up I think 4:30 but Dad wouldn't get up until around 7:30 or 8. Dad
also wouldn't go to bed until around midnight, usually doing some
paperwork and going over the mail. My Mother would fall asleep while
watching TV, almost always falling asleep halfway throug one show and
wake up in the middle of another and for some reason never could figure
out they were two different shows and ask us to explain. Yes, she also
    denied dozing off.

For you, probably. They've announced it several times here. I
haven't smelt anything but last year (two years ago?) occasinally a
faint smokiness when outside. At time the sky looks a gray-overcast
but not sure if that's the effect of the smoke or just the way the
    clouds look.
    Hard to say....

Well, yes, did a bit of Googling and appears the smoke from the Canadian wildfires is mostly gone fromt his part of the country -- Northeast
still has some lingering. So any grayness out there is water vapor.

Last night was monitoring a storm system coming in: watched some rather
dark clouds coming in. Then a very brief sound of heavier rain on the
air conditioner -- almost reminded me of someone spilling water from a
bucket. Window on the far side of the did get rained upon -- must have
been a bit of a breeze chnage so the rain hit my side.

Storm was sort of a fizzle: just over a tenth of an inch of rain in the
rain guage. Plants probably like the 'real' water better than what we
gve them from the tap earlier a few hours earlier!

The TV meteorologists on the four local stations (studios withing five

with trees suddenly on their roofs. Tonight is predicted a storm for

The TV meteorologists on the four local stations (studios withing five

LIS, I sort of like a good storm, just don't want the damage part of it. ...They had predicted some dangerous storms for yesterday later
afternoon and all evening -- drizzled and light rain part of the evening
but that was it. I didn't check the radar sites to see where the storm
    went.

The day I was due to come home from the Pond, we had a monster storm

If I'm going to be inconvenienced I'd like to be 'comfortably
inconvenienced"; you an extra day at cabin.... for me ended up being a
nice Hotel at the Vienna Airport. (Darn! Should have called Room
    Service for bon-bons! <bseg>).

Our family camping at Selkirk Shores State Park was in Oswego
County, so I was a little curious to see how much evidence of

"Part 3" of the mega-packet from yesterday; "Part 2" if just counting today's replies. Figured I should upload just in case ==> don't want
to lose my valuable words of wisdom! Shouldn't be any problems but
don't want to find out the hard way.

I hear you on that... meanwhile, I just plug away at the pile, 5 or 6
messages at a time.... :) The message packet is probably safe enough to
just work at for a few days... ;)

You are getting some more major storms than we get... not that I'm at
    all jealous, you understand... ;)
I think they're all tired out by the time they get to your
    neighbourhood!
    Could be.... <G>
LIS, I sort of like a good storm, just don't want the damage part of
it. ...They had predicted some dangerous storms for yesterday later afternoon and all evening -- drizzled and light rain part of the
evening but that was it. I didn't check the radar sites to see where
    the storm went.

Just as well the danger wasn't there where you are.... I like a good
storm, too... to watch from the safety of indoors, or at most, a
    porch... <G>

The day I was due to come home from the Pond, we had a monster storm
up there, but only rain-wise, and a bit of wind.... I sheltered in
place and came home the next day.... Rochester didn't have as much
rain as we had up there.... but apparently Oswego County did... they
closed ALL the roads in the county due to flash flooding... Any
route I take home from the Pond goes through Oswego County at some
    point....
So may as well stay somewhere comfortable!
    Exactly... :)
If I'm going to be inconvenienced I'd like to be 'comfortably inconvenienced"; you an extra day at cabin.... for me ended up being a nice Hotel at the Vienna Airport. (Darn! Should have called Room
    Service for bon-bons! <bseg>).

Yup... (and maybe you'll think of it next time... <G>)

Our family camping at Selkirk Shores State Park was in Oswego County,
so I was a little curious to see how much evidence of their flooding
might be seen... things were dry pretty much when we got there, but
there were some areas that showed some evidence of things having
flooded... the campgrounds are right at the edge of Lake Ontario, but
elevated a fair amount, so not too prone to flooding.... We had a lot
of rain on Wednesday, which made lots of puddles around that lasted
    a day or so...
So the grounds were high enough to avoid being flooded -- good!

    Yup... :)

The last storm late Sunday afternoon definitely wasn't a fizzle! LIS
we were out on the porch for a while experiencing the rain. A small
area in one of the garden areas was pooling; possibly others but hard
to see. At least the gutters weren't clogged!
And at least things weren't really flooding.... :)
Right: more 'pooling'. Just large puddles: step in and foot would
have been soaked but not the ankle. OTOH all that pooled water does
    look impressive!

Especially when it covers a large section of the yard... ;)

Yes, though always some degree of danger. ...Maybe that's part of the excitement?!

While it did turn into an enjoyable time I sort of don't want to repeat
the delay. Or if does happen to be able to do an add-on vacation: one
of the flight options was to go from Vienna to Paris and then on to
Boston. Well, if I'm going to go to Paris I'd like to do at least some 'touristing' while there rather than just sit/wander Charles de Gaulle
    Airport.

That would be really bad considering the yard has a slight rise to it!
We're probably higher by at least three feet than across the street!

Well, I do like to try to do some each day.... Unless the day gets out
of hand, and I find myself at time to do the bbs run and no messages
    done yet.... ;0

The hint of danger can be exciting... dunno as I'd want to have much
    more than that.... ;)

Um, yeah... pools would have to be in depressions in the yard in that
