Areas affected...North Dakota and Far Northeast South Dakota

    Concerning...Heavy snow

    Valid 111041Z - 111645Z

SUMMARY...A potential for heavy snow bands and periodic blizzard
conditions will continue this morning across much of North Dakota
into parts of far northeastern South Dakota. Snowfall rates of
around 1 inch per hour will be possible.

DISCUSSION...The latest radar imagery from KBIS, KMBX and KABR show
a large area of light to moderate snowfall, located across much of
North Dakota extending southeastward into northeastern South Dakota.
Warm advection and lift associated with the exit region of a low to
mid-level jet, are supporting this area of snowfall. The latest
model forecasts suggest that this area of lift, along with a zone of
strong isentropic ascent, will continue to shift eastward across the
northern Plains over the next few hours. This will help maintain a
potential for snowfall rates near 1 inch per hour within the heavier
bands. Recent surface observations across North Dakota suggest that
the visibility has dropped to 1/2 mile in some locations. This is
due to the heavier snowfall. Visibility will also likely be reduced
by blowing snow, a result of strong winds associated with a tight
pressure gradient, to the east of a surface low. For this reason,
periodic blizzard conditions can be expected to continue this
    morning.
