What's the arcade game where there are 4 players and you're in this dungeon thing, and you have to shoot like a billion ghosts coming out of the houses. And you eat the turkey thing to gain health, then shoot the house to stop the ghosts.

    It said things like
    Green Elf Shot Yellow Wizard
    Yellow Wizard shot the food!

Then this death character would come and if he touched you your life would go down really fast.

It's not Gauntlet is it? that's the usual 4p game you see around and it has different classes like elf, wizard etc. I've played it on the C64 etc but it's always great to play on the original cabinet at the local annual retro arcade and pinball festival ("NERG")

Yes! Gauntlet. I loved that game. So much fun. Simple and fun game play, and great with friends. I think I had a console version at one point.... Maybe on the original Playstation or something....

There are a few retro Pinball arcades and Barcades in SF (or at least there was pre-Covid). I always mean to check them out--- but I never do. Maybe one day. :-)

Ah we don't have anywhere permanent except for the odd pub that we might find a pin in, but the uk pinball community tend to donate their machines to the various events that pop up round the country

As for consoles and computers i get by tinkering with my own collection, but it's a shame that the events were cancelled for so long, but even pre-covid the smart attendees would bring hand sanitizer as that many share machines was always a sure-fire way to get a summer cold!

Yeah, I think we're lucky in SF to have 2 large pinball arcades, one in the City (Free Gold Watch), and one in Alameda (Pacific Pinball Museum). I've also read about the apparently very-large Pinball Museum in Las Vegas.

I'm not aware of any actual arcades, but the Barcades were popular with the tech workers.

It seems there is a bit of a resurgence in Arcade game cabinets with emulators inside. I think this is a good balance between classic arcade and newer hardware that can host hundrends of different ROMs. They were even selling mini-arcade cabinets (about 2/3 size) with emulators in them at Costco for Christmas.

Yeah, hand sanitizer is life these days.

All I cn say is thank the lord for hipsters!! one is more likely to find a pin or two in real ale pubs, and even that's only really in london, up where i live at the other end of the country it's a lot more of a shot in the dark, though there are community sites that catalogue pinball machine sightings

There are emulated pinball machines too as well as arcades but they're not to my taste, i like the mechanical aspect of it too much to use an emulator ----------------------

You're right. I enjoy pinball as well. There is nothing like the sound of the flappers, or the cher-chunk of the ball hitting those throbbing things. How you can feel the metal ball rolling down a ramp in your hands, as they rest on the triggers. (I should learn the names of these pinball parts).

I looked into getting a Pinball machine a few years ago. They're not cheap! A used one, that works, is around $5,000 US.

yeah i have a pinball machine at home (pirates of the caribbean stern 2006 version) which i got off a collector who was getting rid of old machines to bring in new ones. it's best to buy from the community as the machines will be well looked after, as opposed to getting one from a bar which will have been mistreated.

aside from the pinball myself my wife and i love maintaining it, we've only had to swap out one sensor in the years we've had it but it was interesting to do

ours was 3000GBP, so ther are good deals to be had, a new one these days can cost closer to 8-9000GBP.

There are one or two both of us really want but we just don't have the space for a second machine so we're having to fight the urge! she wants a dialled-in which has a very wide body and just the tought of removing doors to get it in is enough to instill discipline!
