Which DOS games do you like? I have not really played any games in years, except for the BBS doors. Back when I did, Rogue was my favorite game.

    Time for some necroposting.

I like Doom, although I play it through source ports nowadays.

Warcraft I and II are nice DOS games. Warcraft I's interface sucked, but I enjoyed it because I am weird. Warcraft II was the top of the series for me... when the franchise hit Warcraft III, the series lots its soul somehow.

Dune and Dune II are interesting. I liked Dune because it blends graphic adventure, plot and real time strategy very well for its era. Dune II was cool to play for historical reasons, and I enjoyed it, but ught the interface and bugs.

Also, there is regular Command and Conquer. Great music. Loved playing with the bad guys.

The Command and Conquer community is still very active, I think. They patched and repurposed the Win 95 version of CnC 1 and there is a lot of online play.

The problem with modern online play of real time strategy games is that hardcore gamers are brutal. They issue more than a command per second. The games are no longer about strategy, they are about smashing buttons harder :-)

Or writing a bot to do it for you... with response times so fast, makes one wonder.

I have seen calls for papers in my old college for projects like that, but never seen an actual RTS bot in play.On the other hand, I have seen many bots in online horse breeding simulators, which I find to be very WTF. I mean, are you really botting a game designed for 12 year old girls??? And those bots really ruin the fun since they bid so fast for horses in the market and overload competitions... you can beat bot players, but then, what is the point of letting a bot play for you?On the other hand, these games are so overloaded by pay-to-win features... games for little girls that require an expense for 150 bucks per month to play competitively. Very WTF.

Nah, that's well within the cpabilities of a human being. Back in 2011 I played competitive Starcraft 2 and made it up to the Diamond League (top 9% of the playerbase) and had a relatively modest APM (actions per minute) of 75. The Korean Grandmaster level players all had APM of around 250+... 4 actions per second. It's all muscle memory once you hit a certain level. It's quick to burnout when you're constantly playing against top players who are serious about winning. I only spent around 2 months at my highest level before quitting the game for good.
