Was going to start Season Three of Jack Ryan, but decided to go
back and watch Season One and Season Two again first. :-)

Glad I did! I remembered some of it, but not all - was still
    very thrilling!

    Jack Ryan

Really enjoyed season 1, season 2 was blah, season 3 has hit the mark
again, really good - the parallel with current events is spooky
considering it was probably written before the Ukraine-Russia thing.

Am somewhat missing the more nerdy stuff that Jack Ryan had in the books.

Yeah - we thought Season 2 was a little slow... It did pick up at the
end, but yeah 3 was a blast from the first scene!

I wondered about that myself! It was... interesting... to say the
    least. :-)

I felt the same way about the series. There's a movie, "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" that's pretty good. It stars Chris Pine and (I think) Morgan
    Freeman as Greer.

At this point there's almost as many actors playing Jack Ryan as Batman.
Odd to think that Alec Baldwin could have locked down the role, but he
had some conflict with one of the people who was involved with the
franchise and didn't want to have to butt heads with that person over
the course of a couple of movies.

I think that for me, it was how Jack Ryan was first presented to me (or
    any character for that matter).

My first "Jack Ryan" experience was Hunt for Red October... and while he
was a main character, he wasn't really the main main in my eyes.... It
    was the Russian Captain.

I never saw that movie as a Franchise (even if it was) so to me, that
character really never became something like a "James Bond" or anything
    like that.

But I guess in a way, that means that in my mind he's the only "REAL"
    Jack Ryan.

I suppose you get a different perspective if you don't read the books
    though.

I don't know anything of why the switched to Harrison Ford, or if the
part was even offered to Baldwin going forward. But Hunt for Red October
was soooooo good, with Connery and the rest of the ensemble cast the bar
was probably set too high. That movie is one of the very few I'd rate as better than the book - and the book was great. I should maybe reread
some of the Clancy novels, I was a teen/early 20 when I read most of
them, I read every spy novel I could get my hands on.

Yeah I read all of Clancy's early books... they were so good. They
recently made a movie of one of his early books.. I can't remember the
name of it but it was the one about John Kelly or Mr. Clark. Whoever
made that movie obviously never read the book as the movie had absolutely nothing to do with the book... and I mean NOTHING! It was a total
fabrication. I was so disappointed when I saw the movie. I hope
Clancy's people sued whoever made that movie, but I am guessing they just
    spent the check.

That is exactly what I thought when I watched a modern Jack Ryan movie. I think it was the one with Kevin Costner in it. It wasn't a bad movie but it wasn't a Jack Ryan movie either. It was an action piece rather than a spy movie.
