From Nightfox@21:1/137 to All on Tue Mar 1 11:05:47 2022
Are there any Star Trek fans here? And has anyone watched Star Trek: Picard, Discovery, and/or Lower Decks?

I've seen Discovery through season 3 (I haven't started season 4 yet, though I plan to). I thought a couple things were a little odd (technology, and Klingon re-design), but I still watched it for the entertainment. I've been getting a little tired of the prequel trend though (and I've heard the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be yet another prequel, set on the Enterprise commanded by Christipher Pike, set before the Kirk yers).

I've also watched Star Trek: Picard season 1, and I'm looking forward to season 2 (which is coming out very soon). It's not the same style of Star Trek as The Next Generation, but that's okay. I like that it continues the story of Picard, and it seems to be fairly consistent with canon (one exception is that there was one episode that showed a hologram of the original NCC-1701 Enterprise that looked like the redesigned one from Discovery, but I don't think that's a big deal).

I've seen some of Lower Decks (most of season 1, and I plan to continue watching). It's interesting to see a Star Trek cartoon that's canon, and it has a fairly humorous take on Star Trek - I like it.

I feel like it's a little odd that there have been several prequel series and movies now (first Enterprise, 2001-2005, then Discovery, and the JJ Abrams movies). There was about 100 years (I think) between the original series and the Next Generation, and I've often thought it would be interesting to see a Star Trek TV series or movie (or two) set on the Enterprise B or C - We've only seen those ships once in the Star Trek canon.

Also, I've been a bit disappointed that there have not been any movies made with the Deep Space 9 or Voyager casts (the exception is that Admiral Janeway appeared in one of the Next Generation movies). I thought the Next Generation movies went downhill a bit too; I wasn't really impressed with Nemesis.

I am ok not having more from Voyager. The captain of that ship always got to my nerves. I think she was trying her ship never to return home or something.

Although they wanted to get home, if they took the fastest route possible (including not immmediately destroying the array that got them stranded), there wouldn't have been a show to last 7 seasons. :P By the time they decided to end the show, I did think they ended up getting home rather suddenly and fast. I guess they had to do that to give the show an appropriate ending, but it just seemed a bit sudden.

They could have done that too. But I thought that may have been a bit far from them too. I don't remember where that went now - I thought it might have been somewhere in the beta quadrant?

Yeah, I felt like Voyager did a bit too much with the Borg.

Then there was the species from beyond space who were so evil not even the Borg wanted to deal with them, but then they were turned into kumbaya victims who only wanted a better life. Within the same season.

It's not that the Borg didn't want to deal with them. Actually, the Borg tried. It was the Borg going into their space to try to assimiliate them in the first place that brought them out into normal space. And then the Borg agreed to work with Voyager on a weapon to try to defeat them.

I still think they shouldn't have abandoned them and used their human DNA to turn them into Real Children (TM). Imagine the dynamic of Tom and Janeway being single parents, shared custody, but while also having to work together and have a commander/subordinate relationship. If you picture a clock face, Earth is at 6 o'clock, roughly in the middle of the face. Voyager was at around 2 o'clock, The Delta quadrant end was around 10 o'clock, a little closer to the edge of the clock face.

That doesn't make any sense, since Voyager was in the Delta quadrant. I'm guessing you meant that the far end of the Bajoran Wormhole in the Gamma quadrant was near 10 o'clock. ;)

    You are correct, Sir.

It seems conveniently placed so as to not make running for the wormhole an option. We'd have less Borg and more Dominion stories floating around.

Yes, it's possible for them to be a long way apart. These two sites could be easily over 50k light years apart, making it not viable for Voyager to make a run for the Bajoran wormhole.

OMG!!!! I am so OVER people asking this question. Just proves they don't know the first things about the shows OR the universe!

The Bajoran wormhole goes between the Alpha and Delta quadrants. Voyager was stuck in the GAMMA quadrant! Was a shorter flight back to the Alpha Quadrant then to have gone to Delta to get to Alpha!
