• TOR connectivity

From deon@21:2/116 to All on Thu Feb 17 10:59:25 2022
    Howdy,

If anybody wants to connect and receive mail, or have their mail sent via tor, Hub 3 is now configured.

Setting up tor was easier than I expected, so if you want to play, ping me (or Oli) and we'll get you going.

Hub 3 is pretty much IPv6 only now. I have configured my home network to use IPv6 as the preferred networking, and I'll slowly be turning off my IPv4 connectivity.

If you are only IPv4 (and use Hub 3) - dont worry! You'll still be able to connect.

My public IPv4 address is still assigned to me by my ISP, but it'll now forward incoming connections to my NAT64 host, which will proxy your connection to the Hub. I'm looking forward to the day I can turn this host off - but I guess it will be many, many years before I can. :(

Setting up the NAT64 host was also easier than I expected - I'm using openwrt for the task in a VM. I hope to do a write up of it, with the aim to make it easier for anybody to do the same if they wanted. If us end consumers are IPv6 ready, then it'll hopefully speed up the removal of IPv4 - no need to use two networking stacks.

Dam... this all sounds rather flash :)

I need NET 1 to start pushing out random kiwi greetings to nodes when they connect to pick up mail.

You know, you probably could do that - not sure if binkp can do it, so maybe that might be an easter egg that I add to clrghouz!

You can use BINKP's M_NUL "OPM string" for that :)

    I favor this.

My opinion of NZ has skyrocketed between fsxNet and Flight of the Conchords.

I've met quite a few kiwis while working at a ski resort in my younger days. All of them were stellar people. Canada is often called the 'polite country', but I daresay you guys are giving us a run for our money!

So...that's *two* votes of confidence, Paul! =D

Thank you although I don't think it's a country specific thing, more likely just who and where and when you bump into people. I have met so many kind and considerate folks during my time in BBSing and I am pleased to say they are all over the globe :)

I'd have to say you're correct. Being online has allowed me to interact with people from all over, as well, and I have also met many fine people this way. One of my closest friends is a guy in Norway that I've never met IRL. Don't tell him I said that; he'd be lording it over me for months...

AFAIK there is no perl hook that would support it. Of course you can extend binkd's source code or rewrite the binkd.cfg file regularly and misuse the SYS, ZYZ or LOC field.

You can use BINKP's M_NUL "OPM string" for that :)

or any other M_NUL "SOMETHING string" that is not already in use.

    M_NUL "QUOTE Good news everyone!"
