    Hello All,

I have provided this update mainly to adress a nasty bug that has sneaked into the outbount folder management, that can under certain circstances cause outgoing mail packets to be stored in the wront outbound directory.

The latest version is available from http://www.winpoint.org.

    Regards,
    Tim

I feel like I should've known about this program already, especially if it's already on version 413.0.

But I guess I haven't really had the need to run a point system.

It was around for years, but the developer dropped it for a
decade or two. I compared it to two other point programs that I
    discovered around the same time.

Then, after some modest encouragement, Tim resumed development
    of WinPoint.

Might not be important to someone who is the sysop of their own
full-blown BBS message system. But a point solution can be a
good way to introduce other people to FTN/BBS message networks.

The existing documentation is rather old and does not reflect the current state of the software. Martin Foster maintained some documenation that is outdated today as well.

Still, most of it is largely self explanatory. Also the setup process will already configure most of the software to your needs, which is already good enough for many people. The most critical part for many people is setting up automatic nodelist updates.

Still, there is the WINPOINT fidonet echo, that will help.

Also, you can ask me ;)

Really good comparsion. Meanwhile, I addressed most of the issues found and did a lot of other improvements.

Then, after some modest encouragement, Tim resumed development of
    WinPoint.

    Jep.

I feel like I should've known about this program already, especially if
    it's already on version 413.0.

    That's a lot of versions... :)

Based on my 90s internal versioning policy, where every build with new features got a new major version and every fix to that build was a revision.

Back in the time however, I did not use these version numbers prominently but instead made a few "releases" with separate articial versioning. At a certain point I realized, this makes no longer sense as release cycles shortened so I decided just to use the internal version number to better consistently reflect how different versions actually are.

For a new project, I would count different. But here, particularly for the last years this works well.

Hey PainDictator - thank you for the reply.

Maybe the easiest thing is ask is there any hardware bounding (too little this or that or too much breaks WinPoint)?

    Any additional software requirements?

I expect I will have some more questions upcoming, as I want to play around with WinPoint with the idea to help several friends try out life as a point.

    Thank you,

    Steve

Nope. If it runs windows, you should be fine.

    Any additional software requirements?

    Windows XP or better.

    Do that.
