You might remember sometime ago (late last year) I asked if people could
visit a test page to help me test the TCP/IP stack for my OS.

Well, I'm back at it, and have redone the TCP part, and I'm hoping people
could load up the website so I can see if it breaks..

    it's at http://positronicbrain.net:8080/

I fully expect it will crash at some point, it might be slow (partly due
to hosting at home, partly because the OS itself is slow) but it is
    working at present.

If it does crash, and I'm not looking it might be a while before I
restart it, so if it doesn't load anything - don't worry :)

Oh, I did test on a proxy web site, and it loaded - the top image took
ages, but it loaded. I'm sitting on 27Mb / 1019Mb RAM used (not too
bad).. it will be interesting to see if the sockets close properly and
each connection cleans up after itself.

The first time I tried I get a network timeout. I tried immediately after that, then the page loaded instantly. Oddly, the image at the top, the purple one of the clown with "quinn" on it would either not load, or load and then disappear!

Yes, it is a bit slow. Though, odd that you got 18 seconds to load the

Could it be that the web browser shows the image as it is received, then the connection/transfer is interrupted in some way, and the web browser determines that the image is not complete (i.e. broken), so hides it? And maybe shows some cross or something to indicate that the image is broken.

It works here, though it's slow...like I'm using a 1200 baud modem with
    PPP and viewing with Cello.

and it only seems to link back to itself, otherwise, seems ok.

Where abouts is your server located?

I did find a bug today where I wasn't closing the TCP session correctly, which I've since fixed. I don't know if that would have caused it to hang. Does curl show you the data as it arrives? as it would be interesting to see if the hang is at the start or the end, or if it's evenly slow.

Thanks again for helping me test. I'm leaving it running for the time being to see if it will crash, or at least stop responding since i fixed that keepalive thing. With everyone here who's tested plus the port scanners, it's been good.

    Howdy,

Where abouts is your server located?

At home - same place as my laptop (which is why it is odd)...

I did find a bug today where I wasn't closing the TCP session correctly, which I've since fixed. I don't know if that would have
caused it to hang. Does curl show you the data as it arrives? as it would be interesting to see if the hang is at the start or
the end, or if it's evenly slow.

No, curl only shows the output after it arrives - but normally it should be quick because its one TCP connection and results in the raw HTML (so no connections to get the images, style sheets, javascript, etc).

Even if I just do a HEAD request, it was slow.

    [deon@c-8-1 ~]$ time curl -I http://positronicbrain.net:8080
    HTTP/1.1 200 OK
    Server: Mite/0.4-QUINN
    Connection: close
    Content-Type: text/html
    Content-Length: 1055
    real 0m20.232s
    user 0m0.004s
    sys 0m0.004s
    [deon@c-8-1 ~]$

I actually think it might be something with my firewall (but then it should affect my laptop - which is why its confusing). My laptop does it quicker:

    ╰─$ time curl -I http://positronicbrain.net:8080
    HTTP/1.1 200 OK
    Server: Mite/0.4-QUINN
    Connection: close
    Content-Type: text/html
    Content-Length: 1055
    curl -I http://positronicbrain.net:8080 0.00s user 0.02s system 0% cpu 3.065 total

On an unrelated note - I've noticed when I copying/pasting from a terminal into Magiterm (ie: the above), it pasted as one long line, not several lines as it is... Not sure if that is fixible?
