There's too much of it already. What we need is more real intelligence.

What is considered to be 'artificial intelligence' today does not meet my definition of the phrase. There are no self-aware machines. And that's probably a good thing, if the likes of Terminator or Ex Machina are to be believed.

There are machines which are capable of developing according to algorithms, but actual intelligence, we are a long way from from general intelligence.

Machines can process, but they can't think, not in the broad sense that we can. I think we're further away from that than we think, and developing such a thing is undesirable.

What if the machine is conscious? We would then have an obligation to protect it, make sure it doesn't suffer. People could create conscious entities just to torture them or rule over them as petty tyrants.

We're steeping toward that, though. Yes, we don't have any real AI today, but we are developing systems that can learn (in a bounded way) from the input that they get.

Like any other complex thing, we aren't going to just jump there. But rather move toward it slowly, making it better and better on each iteration.

And slowly is a good thing.
