Yeah! Welcome back, you were missed.

Has one full year passed since your last message in FSX_GEN? Time flies, I'm getting old.

I'm getting old too. Last year was a mess with a divorce, covid and other things. I got my BBS up and running properly in the end of july after I moved to an apartment but I never quite worked up the motivation to finish everything.

MiKom is for Amiga, right? Ironically, there has been another Swedish
sysop just recently, in the FIDO AMIGA echo, asking about what software he
can use to get his old Amiga running a BBS again.

My kids live with me every other week. I work from home 100% which is quite nice. Things are going along nicely. I'm coming up to 365 days since my wife and I decided to divorce and it's quite scary how time flies.

NiKom. But yes, it's for the Amiga. It used to be a fairly well known BBS system in Sweden back in the day but you either ran a command based BBS system (called KOM in Sweden) or you ran something menu based (AmiExpress, etc). NiKom is a command based system and was the most popular one for the Amiga in Sweden and it's still being developed and used by ~10 BBS:es in Sweden.

You'll get through it.. Everyone takes a different time to get through the process. Some take only a year and
other's take two, three or more. It took me just over two years to even think about dating and if I wanted to meet
someone again. Then people got scared of dating when covid hit...

Ain't it? Well it's good that you got something sorted that works for you and the wider family. In the end it's important to be happy with ones lot and if you're not I think over time things build up to a point where you would understandably need to make some changes for your own wellbeing.

I'm also (again) working from home because Omicron is on the rise here in New Zealand, it will be our countries first real dealing with Covid-19 as up until now we've adopted a 'keep it out' strategy that has meant around only 50 deaths since 2020... but now with wider vaccination coverage and given the transmissible nature of Omicron now out in the community those national settings have changed.

So yeah, fun and games here over the coming 4-8 weeks as case number rise :(

Being vaccinated and getting infected with Omicron is still much better than catching an earlier strain unvaccinated. The only alternative would be to keep the lock-downs until there is enough omicron-specific mRNA vaccine. Let's hope next fall and winter will be less bad.

I wonder if one day they can create vaccines like in scify movies and TV shows. Just before everyone dies (mutates to another species), the doctor / scientist somehow synthesizes a vaccine / antidote and everyone's saved.

Being that my local area experienced the highest surge in positivity ever just a month ago, the best thing you can do is prepare and get the items you need ahead of time. If you wait, there will be limited items.

At the same time, it isn't anything people should be overly worried about. Not pleasant, but not horrible. The key is having test kits, vitamins, and several over the counter meds that seems to help counter it. In the rare serious case, have that planned out as well (ie. monoclonal antibodies).

Unfortunately nothing to date has stopped it, so treatments are the most important. Omnicron is mild in the vast majority of cases, but being prepared is key. When we were at 35% positivity rate, there were 4 hour lines outside in the winter to try and get tested. There were no meds anywhere, and no test kits anywhere. My best suggestion is be prepared.
