• installing door games

I've had a lot of trouble installing doors on my Mystic BBS. I can't run 32 bit programs on my 64-bit computer so I thought the answer was to use Netfoss, but of course Netfoss won't run in 64-bit either. So what's the answer? Does my Windows 10 operating system need to be 32-bit? I tried installing the operating system again - thought I could pick to install it as a 32-bit OS but I didn't see a chance to install it as 32-bit. Did I miss something?

Also, what do you have to make copies of when you are backing up a Mystic BBS? I tried to copy only the files in the C:\MYSTIC directory but that messed me up for a while. I finally got the BBS working again but it was a pain. Any ideas for running doors?

The trouble is that Microsoft removed NTVDM support and you need to do some real hacky stuff to get NTVDM support back - http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/ntvdmx64.html

What I have is a 32 bit Windows 7 VPS slice hosting all of my DOS doorgames. It works well and I don't have to change core parts of my OS to do so.

I run backup scripts using rsync in linux but not Windows, sorry, can't help ya :) I'm sure there is some Windows backup 3rd party thing you could use and point it at your Mystic directory.

Hey, thanks a lot for the info. I'll try to get this straightened out.

That gives me a few ideas. I could run the doors off something separate from the BBS itself. Thanks for the suggestions.

My base system is running 64 bit Windows 11 but I am running Windows 10 32-bit on a VirtualBox VM. The BBS is actually on the main sysetm's D Drive which is also mapped as a shared Folder on the VM. It seems to work well for me. I used to keep the BBS on a Virtual disk directly on the VM but seemed to have issues with file corruption.

Regarding re-installing Windows 32 bit were you doing a clean install when you tried to install it or trying to upgrade the existing install? Also, make sure you booted from a bootable DVD or USB if you go that route
