I don't know what I did, but when I run the Mystic server now it tells me that I have TWO servers running. I only have one instance of Mystic running, so I don't know what is happening. Has anyone else had this problem? It doesn't seem to be affecting the performance of my BBS, but it is strange.

I have run into this problem before. Take a close look at the windows task manager. I had multiple copies of mis running. I now make sure BEFORE I
start mis that I've shut down any previous copies.

Hi there :)

As discussed via email, this is normal behavior and what you're seeing is the Mystic server (mis server) reporting it's starting up the telnet server on port 23 and the binkp server on port 24554 ... so it's all good :)

In theory (for windows certainly) once you start a server you get a mis.bsy semaphore created such that should should not be able to run another 'mis server' instance thereafter.

I can also repro this when I try to run 'mis server' in Linux

ERROR: Mystic servers are already running.
If this is not true, then the delete the following file and restart: /mystic/semaphor/mis.bsy

Thanks. What confused me was, I had never seen this before. Maybe I don't even need the binkp server. I will mess around with it and see.

I had the same thing happen whenever I started Mystic it said that I was running 2 servers, which was confusing at first until I realized it was the binkp that was also running. I also made a little batch file I call "startbbs.bat" that will delete the mis.bsy file and then load Mystic.... because I'm lazy that way. :)

Check your 'semaphore' folder and make sure there are no .bsy file in it before starting up MIS.

For instance, I use the following .bat file to start my BBS:

cd \loy\semaphore
del *.bsy
cd \loy
mis server

Of course, I'm running on Win7U, but I'm sure you could create a bash file that does the same thing if you're running on a *nix system.

(If you MUST do it, anyway. Its even BETTER to only run ./mis poll killbusy if NEEDED.)
