• BBS Soft Roundup!

From NuSkooler@21:1/121 to All on Mon Nov 30 20:32:00 2020
I'm looking to expand the Telnet Bridge on Xibalba BBS with a selection of BBS software for people to explore. The goal here is to have a nice collection of boards that are either running under vintage/unusual/unique software and/or running on vintage/unusual/unique hardware.

Some examples of the softs covered so far: Warp Six, Telegard, RATsoft, GBBS, etc.

If you know of or are running something that should be on here please let me know! There are soooo many missing, but some off the top of my head: Oblivion/2, Renegade, iNiQUiTY, dESiRE or System/X, Daydream, Waffle or modern Pyffle, Magicka, Virtual Advanced, OK I could just keep going on.

As far as I know it is not "out of the box" compatible with an RC2014 -- because like almost every CP/M program that uses a serial port, it has to
be adapted to the serial chip (eg. SIO/2).
In either the RC2014 or the "retro-comp" Google group, someone asked about porting CBBS in the last weeks - so maybe, there is some development going
    on here.
I suggested to adapt CBBS to the RomWBW serial functions, so the program could run on every hardware and serial chip where RomWBW is running.

So I hope it will be available soon :)

Yea, I liked it too.. I really like the Hacker News python RSS reader they put out with it. It's better than most, as it actually populates the data from ycombinator.com/rss with text - as the ycombinator Hacker News RSS feed links to the actual web sites and not a text article.

Also, the 24bit color test is SWEET! It like pulses and... is really flipping nice.

Couple things; there is a github with extras for x84, its listed in the documentation and has stuff like... message areas, automessaging and... some other weather/BBS functions - already available.

And two, it IS open so.. anyone can take it and develop.

I, too, thought it was a nice project. Furthermore it uses UTF8&cp437 so a BBS can look PERFECT just using telnet from the terminal. Thats rad...

For some python master, this is a unique BBS software just waiting to get programmed up to the AWESOME level.

Agree. I was saddened when the announcement came that it wasn't going to be worked on any longer.

I stumbled across x/84 a few years ago searching fro something completely unrelated. It's what alerted me to the fact that people are still both developing and creating new BBS packages. ...the catalyst for me deciding to learn Node and write a BBS in that.

While they are completely different, and I know that you wrote ENiGMA from scratch, I really thought ENiGMA was what x84 wasn't.

Sure, I'm talking half out my ass - but for the USER, they were similar... except ENiGMA has the extra things needed that x84 never provided to the layman. I'm glad you found x84, too... or else it sounds like maybe we wouldn't have an ENiGMA in the BBS space.

not specifically a BBS? Like you could build on top of it to make what
