From Alan Beck@1:229/426.36 to All on Thu Jun 9 11:25:01 2022
    //Hello All,//

Well, I was starting up version 407 on windows 10 and it gave me the "out of bounds -1" message again.

I restarted it and I had a black screen and all the buttons were German.

So I ran setup again and overwrote the configuration.

Should I be installing at an administrator?

    It's happened 3 times now.

    Advice?

    Regards,
    Alan Beck

I've lost count of the number of times I've successfully installed
WinPoint over the last 20+ years and I've never ever had to install it
    with administrator priveleges.

Heard of it, but have not seen it.

That means something bad happened while reading the configuration. The software will not work in that state.

So I ran setup again and overwrote the configuration.

Should I be installing at an administrator?

It should not be possible to install WP without admin right !?

Happens automatically because its in the metadata of the setup.exe . You may notice the privilege elevation dialog that comes up on most windows systems ...

OK, I will make sure that time.

Can Iinstall an older newer version over top of another build?

Interest if your new version 4.08.3 might help.

Smooth sailing with my current 4.07 buildd

While it is not recommended, You generally can install newer/older versions over your existing WP and should be largely fine. Some minor issues can arise during strong downgrades, for example that the stored area lists for the area manager become invalid (because they are now unicode) and need to be replaced. Still, it mostly works and during testing I do that a lot without significant trouble.

Again, this is not really intended and I strongly recommend not to do downgrades unless there is a very good reason. Bette give me a chance to fix the issue and wait for an upgrade if possible.

Interest if your new version 4.08.3 might help.

Probably not, as none of the changes is IMO relevant for your problems.

Anyway, I will provide a new version during the next weeks. I was a sick/busy for the past month but things look better for the weeks to come.

Smooth sailing with my current 4.07 buildd

    Nice.

Well, I was starting up version 407 on windows 10 and it gave me the
"out of bounds -1" message again.

If it happens again, even before pressing ok on the dialog, you could use regedit.exe to make a copy of the WP configuration (save to file) stored at

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\New.Vision.Software\WinPoint

and send me that file (by email) for diagnosis. Maybe it helps finding or at least narrowing down the problem.

Note that in the resulting file will also contain your passwords. So you might want to use a text editor to remove these from the file before sending it to me.

Also, you can use the above method to backup your configuration and restore it with a single click from the saved file, in case it breaks again.
