    It used to work fine, I beleive it is an issue with the latest IOS.

    Yes, it is the client. That seems to be the way most news clients work although I haven't used a news server/client recently.

    It terrible hard to navigate all those threads. I much prefer my dumb terminal!

    Using a news server is quite a bit different than what someone who has been using a BBS interface is used to and the experience can change again with a different client.

    I sometimes use tin to read messages on my own server. It works and behaves well but I can't get used to the message threading. It's not a bad thing, but it is different.
