HOUSTON (CBSDFW.COM/AP) -- Texas leads the nation in the number of people seeking federal permission to buy guns.
Federal statistics reviewed by the Houston Chronicle show 1.2 million people in Texas so far this year have filled out applications for background checks. At that rate, last year's record 1.4 million requests will be surpassed by the end of 2013.
Would-be purchasers from a federally licensed dealer must apply with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Criminal convictions, dishonorable military discharges or renouncing their citizenship can get a buyer rejected.
One gun store owner, Jim Pruett, told the newspaper Friday that President Barack Obama motivates gun buyers "any time he talks about gun control."
The numbers don't include transactions between private citizens. Those don't require background checks.

I finally bought a gun for the first time since the late 1970's. It's
a Hi-Point CF-380 which is a nice little pistol but I'll have to get
the optional 10 round magazines for a better fit to my hand. I've been
attacked by crackheads who were told to leave the property and robbed
at gunpoint by innocent little Trayvons. The 380 may not be a big
round but two quick shots in the mouth will stop anyone and I will not
hesitate to kill a teenage thug who is crazy enough to attack me. I
had my first background check for a firearm and the dealer said it
could take as long as 5 days, mine took 10 minutes.
That is about average. Most do not take long.
The last time I
had a background check done by the feds was when I went to work for a
contractor doing some work for The SDI (Star Wars) program back in the
1980's. o_O
None of that was a factor in your firearms background check. It checks
your name, etc.. to see if you are a prohibited possessor. Those are
folks who are prohibited from purchasing a firearm due to a felony conviction, mental adjudication, under an indictment, dishonorable
discharge from the military, renouncement of citizenship, convicted of domestic violence, a subject of a retraining order, etc..

I never thought my work on a government project requiring a background
check by the FBI had anything to do with my firearm purchase. I was
simply stating that the scrutiny of me by The FBI was the last time
there was any attention paid to me by the government. I haven't even
been on an airline flight in 25 years so no feds have been up my ass
checking to see if I might be a terrorist or other criminal since I
had worked at the missile range years ago. ^_^
Do you know how I can convert my pistol into an AK-47 Assault Pistol? I
read in The New York Times that it's easy to convert any firearm into
AK-47 full auto assault rifle/pistol. ^_^

full auto AK47 maching pistol. Then you can work out the rest of the details. ;)
