Just curious if anyone else has run up againt this, but in the SLyEdit
external editor, the key command for quoting (ctrl-Q) is the same as the hang-up key command for SyncTerm on Linux... So, just unable to quote :)

I use SlyEdit and have no problem quoting. I just quoted your message using /q in the editor. I rarely use the ctrl-? commands. I wonder if hitting ctrl-q is causing issues?

I just hit ctrl-q and the quote window popped up. Something must be different between our versions or setup.. but it works for me here on slackware.

Hmmm... using SyncTERM 1.2a Debug (Feb 23 2021) - Curses

    I'll try /q!

    Cheers,

Ctrl-Q is also the XON character (used in so-called "software flow-control") and traditionally has been avoided as a usable command key in online services.

"Curses" is the keyword there. In X or SDL modes, the SyncTERM command-keys would be Alt-key combinations.

I am now in syncterm 1.1 using the full screen sdl mode.

Duece has done a lot of updates to the 1.2 version so it might be worth catching up.

    I'll try /q

That's what I always use. /q on a blank line to quote, /a to abort or /s to save.

Thank you. Using "/q" does the trick for me in this scenario!

Don't know why, but running SyncTerm in my WSL2 instance, no X/GUI, just looks and feels a whole lot better than under Windows... <shrug>

Which is to say, it's all looking good now :)

I run SyncTERM (1.2a, recent build) for Windows in terminal mode as
well, but not via wsl2... I prefer Consolas or Fira Code more as a
terminal font. using Consolas at size 36 in windows 10 (32" 1440p). It
won't support links this way, but at least I get more font sizes available.

May give the curses mode in WSL2 a shot. Didn't know it wouldn't
support the Alt key combinations though.

I didn't know that. Ctrl-Q was used by IceEdit and DCT Edit to open the quote window, and I had made SlyEdit use the same key. But I had added /q to open the quote window in case there was ever a problem with Ctrl-Q in some scenarios.

Yeah, it's likely not a problem for 99.9% of users. Ctrl-S/Ctrl-Q (XOFF/XON) hasn't really been used since 2400bps modems. With the advent of 9600bps modems and their buffering/packetization of data, so-called "hardware flow control" (CTS/RTS) was really required and the XOFF/XON stuff wasn't used much. And then when modems got faster (and the buffers bigger) the Ctrl-S/Ctrl-Q keys even in Synchronet weren't really of much use to the user. The user would hit Ctrl-S and then pages of text would still be received and displayed before the receive stream would be paused.

That's interesting.. I suppose they weren't too common, but in the 90s, I saw Ctrl-S and Ctrl-Q used at least in IceEdit and DCT Edit into the 90s when faster modems were around.
