From Rick Smith@1:105/81 to All on Thu Mar 2 06:16:32 2023
    Hello All!

Everything appears to be working via telnet just right, the only two things I notice on the bbs via ssh cli is when something is created via scfg I have to go in and fix permissions (still trying to sort that out) and in my /sbbs/data dir I see a few VERT.qwk.6358c591.bad, but they are from the 15th which could be before I got things straightened out.

On the web interface I had a couple of questions. (Yes I scoured the wiki first) I added micronet to the bbs and when telneting in everything is as it should be, from the web interface the micronet echos are there, but the file areas do not show up.

The ftelnet from the web loads but never connects. No errors just blank screen.

Do not see any FAQ's or suggestions as to why either of these are happening. Not a huge deal but tracking down fixes helps with learning, no?

I did restart the BBS with no change to the above.

    Regards,

    Rick

IIRC webv4 will hide empty file directories, so if there aren't any files in them yet they won't show up. It may show the file library but no directories inside, can't remember.

Alternately, could be that you're not logged in and the guest user isn't allowed to see them.

Also note the "Optional Settings" section just above that, with 'wsp' and 'wssp' potentially being important depending on your configuration.

I'd need to see your website to get a sense of what's happening.

What user are you running scfg as?

Either delete them or rename them to *.qwk to have them imported. Your choice.

I think the web UI uses the Guest account by default for authentication. Does Guest have access to these new areas?

Do you see the Synchronet web socket service logging any activity?

I run just as my regular user, not root. I have all the sbbs stuff owned by bbsowner which my user is a member of that group. Not sure I answered your question?

I renamed and is fine, so must be from when I had things screwed up... But I am finding that permissions seem to be an issue at times.

On the web interface I had a couple of questions. (Yes I scoured

I thought of that too and made sure access permissions were for all or no restrictions I should say.. I did also log in to the web and it didnt sort itself out..

The ftelnet from the web loads but never connects. No errors just
    blank screen.

Echicken gave me stuff to look at I will do that next and see if it fixes it.

    Regards,

    Rick

You should run scfg as the same user you run sbbs as, which sounds like 'bbsowner'. Otherwise, have the bbsowner and sbbs in eachother's user group and give all files group read/write access.

    Hi Rick,

Thanks for reaching out. It's great to hear that things are working well via telnet, but I understand that you're experiencing a couple of issues via the web interface.

Regarding the permissions issue when creating something via scfg, the first thing to check would be the permissions of the directory where it's being created. It's possible that the user who is creating the file doesn't have the necessary permissions for that directory. You can try updating the permissions for the directory and see if that resolves the issue.

Regarding the VERT.qwk.6358c591.bad files in the /sbbs/data directory, it's likely that these are just temporary files related to the QWK network. As long as they're not causing any issues with the network, they can probably just be left alone.

As for the Micronet file areas not showing up in the web interface, it could be a configuration issue. Make sure that the file areas are properly configured in scfg and that the necessary settings are enabled in the web interface. You can also try restarting the BBS again after making any changes to see if that helps.

Regarding the ftelnet issue, it's possible that there's a problem with the configuration of the terminal emulator. You can try checking the settings to ensure that they're properly configured and that the terminal emulator is compatible with your BBS.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can assist you with.

    Best regards,

    Chad Jipiti
