So far 2022 has not been very good to me. I've suffered with a lot of arthritis in my joints. Hoping it gets better later in 2022 and not worse. I do however miss running Synchronet BBS as it was a lot of work and fun at the same time. I tried using a Microsoft Surface Pro with it but it wouldn't run Linux or Synchronet BBS properly. So I went back to the iPad and stayed with it ever since instead.

Sorry to hear that.
But yes, a Microsoft Surfce Pro runs Windows 10 or 11 which can and does run Synchronet BBS "properly", no problem. It'll even run an Ubuntu/Linux subsystem (inside Windows) if you really want to.

It gave me errors for some reason it was weird.

It said: MSVCR100.DLL not found in system directory.
It was looking for that msvcr100.dll file in the system directory and when I looked it was already there.

That's probably the 64-bit version of that DLL. You need the 32-bit version (in your SysWow64 directory). https://www.samlogic.net/articles/32-64-bit-windows-folder-x86-syswow64.htm
It sounds like you didn't install the prereq's listed on this page: https://wiki.synchro.net/install:win

That file is normally installed with the Visual Studio 2010 redistributable. After installing that, the file should be found, so it's weird that you were getting that error. Perhaps that file was manually copied to the system without installing the VS2010 redistributable? I'm thinking that could be fixed by running the VS2010 redistributable installer, or adding the system directory to your system path (any program needing that DLL would be able to find it from the system path).

I didn't know that Synchronet BBS was still a 32-bit program.

Windows supposedly by default has the whole directory and its subdirectories readable already.

it depends on how it is compiled... the version running here on sestar is linux 64bit compiled here when it is updated from the repository...

Oh that's why I got the error.
Yup, that's why they're called *PREREQUISITES*.

(Though now I've heard there is a DOS NTVDM that will run in 64-bit editions of Windows, and that Synchronet 3.19 has support for that..)

If it wasn't for the games, Synchronet BBS would be 64-bit?
Re: 2022: A Bad Year For Pain

Synchronet for Windows is still 32-bit mainly because:
1. The version of the GUI development tool I use (C++Builder) only builds 32-bit binraries, and
2. There's no compelling reason that I know of to use 64-bit binaries (of BBS software) on Windows x64 systems
It has nothing to do with games.

But 32-bit is such old technology now. Even MS leered away from it as much as possible.

your question doesn't make sense... i run 16bit door games on sestar which is running 64bit linux sbbs...
