From Al@1:103/705 to Digital Man on Mon Sep 20 15:56:38 2021
    Hello Digital Man,

I have a couple netmail messages for a user here that don't get imported because sbbsecho says the user is unknown, so they are stuck in the netmail directory. They are addressed to a user here on the BBS. sbbsecho.log says..

    2021-09-20 15:42:45 /sbbs/fido/netmail/1.msg August Abolins (2:460/256) To: Eri ch B. (1:153/757.2) Unknown user
    2021-09-20 15:42:45 /sbbs/fido/netmail/2.msg August Abolins (2:460/256) To: Eri ch B. (1:153/757.2) Unknown user

On the reverse side of this I have seen a couple notifications that this user has sent me an email, but there is no email to be found.

This user Erich B., is a co-sysop here, so his security level is 90 but I don't think that would make a difference. If you would like to have a look at these 1 and 2.msg they are available here..

    http://trmb.synchro.net/7572_msg.zip

Any idea why that would happen or what I can do about it?

    Ttyl :-),

Are you sure that there's a user named "Eric B." in your Synchronet user base?

Examine your mail base with the ;mail sysop command or the 'smbutil'.

Sounds like a name mismatch, even though the latest alias/name matching algorithms (in Synchronet v3.19) are very liberal.

Are you sure that there's a user named "Eric B." in your Synchronet user base?

Yes, his username on the BBS is "Erich B." and that is who the netmail is addressed to.

Examine your mail base with the ;mail sysop command or the 'smbutil'.

I have tried both, but I see no email from Erich B.

Any idea why that would happen or what I can do about it?

Sounds like a name mismatch, even though the latest alias/name matching algorithms (in Synchronet v3.19) are very liberal.

That could be what it is. I wonder if the short last name ending in B. is causing the trouble?

I think the problem was with a name (or alias) ending in a non-alphanumeric character. I think I fixed that. Try an update from Git and let me know.

Al. I looked at your log in your message. It says "Eri ch B." There's a space in my name therefore causing you an error.

Those are not log files, they are netmail messages in *.msg format.

It does not say Eri ch B., it says Erich B. in both cases.
