Wiki edit of http://wiki.synchro.net/install:dev by digital man: [Run-time files] Mentino the 'use defaults' text.dat option
I seem to recall some talk about being able to put just the modified text.dat lines into a /sbbs/mods/text.dat file and have it override the default text.dat file for those entries; is that a feature now?
Any lines starting with '#' are ignored (the default is used). I'm not sure how long that feature has been there and its not well-documented, but looking at the code, looks like it should work. So in theory, you could have a text.dat that contained hundreds of #'s and just the few strings you wanted to over-ride.
Any any string offsets that aren't represented in the text.dat will always use the defaults. Since new strings are most often added to the end of the file, this gives a little bit of backward compatibility (newer sbbs, older text.dat).
