    Hi everyone,

I've been playing around with my DOS computer lately and have yet to successfully download a large file (>120kb lol) when connected to an SBBS system via any kind of modem emulating serial port telnet connection. Currently I'm using a Simulant Retro Wifi (computer sees it as a modem but it telnet's to the BBS). Works great for browsing BBSes. Flawlessly in fact. But downloading large files always fails.

X and Ymodem modes will start getting CRC errors. Zmodem fails to start transferring at all. This is with any SBBS system (haven't tried other BBS systems yet).

In a proper ethernet-based telnet session (both DOS via mTCP and Win95 via mTelnet) file transfers work fantastically well. Fast and error free.

I understand SEXYZ is a modern, forward looking implementation of these protocols and I'm looking backwards lol. But I was just wondering if there is a DOS terminal program known to work well with a SEXYZ-based BBS?

    Cheers,
    Doug

Some Synchronet BBSes have *other* X/Y/ZMODEM protocol drivers available for users too (e.g. cvs.synchro.net has lsz/rz available for use). Give that a try and see if you get different results.

I have an iPad myself and have u/l issues with SBBS too. Don’t know why though.

Thanks, lsz on Vertrauen worked fine. 1.8mb QWK packet transferred
over 19,200 baud (yup, need to buy a UART 16550 card lol) taking
16 minutes without a single CRC error.

What switches for sz are you using if any on Vertrauen? I ask
because I have a Linux box with telnet and lrzsz on my LAN that
I cannot use sz with successfully (to this Simulant Retro Wifi
gizmo). I have to resort to Kermit which never has any errors
    but of course is slow.

On the other hand I suppose perhaps the telnet server setup on
my Linux box might need something configured differently rather
    than sz.

    Cheers,
    Doug

For ZMODEM send, it's just 'sz %f' for single-file and 'sz %s' for batch.

Well that worked. In Procom Plus and Telemate I can use SZ with no hiccups. I was able to download a 1.8mb QWK packet with zero errors.

I wasn't able to upload using a variety of modes in PC Plus. Was able to upload in kermit in Telemate at 9600 baud (my old 486 only has 8250 UART chips). But I see that even though the upload appeared to complete that my packet wasn't processed. The other modes I tried the file would transfer but the transfer process would never end. It was like my software wasn't telling the BBS that the transfer was done. Kept endlessly retrying to send the last packet (regardless of mode I tried).

I have an ISA 16C650 chip based serial card coming in the mail so that might help. Painful to buy though. Cheapest I could find when factoring in shipping. It was only $20 and is new old stock. But shipping (US to Canada) was $25!

Anyway, progress has been made and we'll see how things fair with the new serial card once it comes.

    Cheers,
    Doug

Okay. So my issue is likely the telnet server config.

Can I ask what area my reply has ended up? When listing Synchronet
Discussion while logged into the BBS (after I uploaded my REP packet
of course) I did not see my reply so I assumed the REP packet did not
get processed (wasn't watching closely during the upload). But my
reply obviously got to you of course.

In MultiMail I just typed R for reply, chose the already highlighted Synchronet (which I assume is the short name for the DOVE-Net echo
Synchronet Discussion) and then chose NO to "make this private".

So I would assume that after my REP packet is uploaded and processed
that I should be able to list the Synchronet Discussion echo and see
    my reply there?

Lot's of cobwebs to brush off on my part lol.

    Cheers,

Yes. There are about 4000 messages in the base right now, so one message might be easy to over look.
