As a counter to all of the heated discussion over the number of migrants/refugees/illegal aliens coming into the USA over the last
decade over the Southern border: Consider the mid 19th century and
Ireland. If you take a look, one can find various numbers for different periods, with many of the estimates overlapping in time. Here are some
of those numbers:

4.5 million from 1841 to WWII
~1 million from 1851 to 1860
~2 million from 1845 to 1852
~3 million from 1820 to 1880

Whichever set of numbers one uses, it is clear that there were hundreds
of thousands of migrants each year for more than a decade after the
potato famine.

These people were not deported. For the most part, they established
themselves as productive members of society. Another estimate is that
1/3 of the USA population claims Irish heritage.

SO -- why is the current influx from the Southern border such a
political hot potato?

Irish immigration was a political hot potato, too, with the added stigma that they were Catholics coming into a largely Protestant country (apparently that meant a lot more back then).

Easy, the US Christians are the amongst worst religious hypocrites in the world. They claim to be Christian, i.e. living by the teachings by their prophet Jesus, yet renounce everything he is telling them in their Holy Bible, in effect the entire second half of their Bible.

The way they picture Jesus is a North European white male, blond hair and beard and with a straight nose, nothing like the Jewish, brown Arab looking person with a curved nose he really must have been.

What most people view as Jesus is a reproduction of a painting
by Warner Sallman called "Head of Jesus".

The picture of Jesus is taken from an actual painting of Jesus,
which is still on display, at Anderson University in Indiana (USA),
by an artist from Chicago, Illinois (USA). The only difference being
the original painting is of a Jesus with
brown eyes, not blue.

Based on gospel accounts, Jesus was a black man. Would you like
me to cite chapter and verse? Definintely not the same picture as
depicted in the famous painting, or reproductions of that painting.
In the same article noted above, a more scientific portrait of
Jesus is described.

Point is, Jesus is thought to be the same color as the people in
the area who claim to be Christians. To Asians, Jesus is yellow. To
Africans, Jesus is black. To Mexicans, Jesus is brown (as well as
the Lady of Guadalupe).

It really should come as no surprise the Jesus is white for those
who are Swedish, Russian, English, German, etc. But not for Italians.
They know Jesus was green, the same color as their own olive skin.

I know. The painting on the alb of a church where I am is that of
Dago Jesus. The guy who painted it was Dutch. It caused quite a stir
when he finished it, with everyone talking about what they had seen.

Except fot the bishop, who was left totally speechless at the sight.

But nobody wants to let all them Ukrainians in. Even though
all of them are white. And nobody wants to let all them

The USA does not deport its own kind.
Especially those who sneak in from the northern border.

For the most part, they established themselves as productive members of society.

Irish worked the streets as policemen, security detail, and made
for great boxers. But it was not just Irish who made up America.

Italian and Sicilians who made their way to New Orleans built the
world's largest macaroni factory and made noodles (and spaghetti) for
the entire country ...

Another estimate is that 1/3 of the USA population claims Irish heritage.

And what is the population of white folks in this country?
Far more than 1/3. Used to be more like 2/3. Still over half
today, but by 2050 will be a minority.

We cannot build wall fast enough. Brown folks are already a majority
of the population in New Mexico. And growing fast in Arizona and Nevada.
And continuing to grow in California, especially in East LA.

But no wall on our northern border. We need more white folks to keep
the majority from losing control ...
