WASHINGTON, D.C.rCoIn a statement given this week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she feels for Americans struggling with prices at the pump and offered a suggestion for how to cope by becoming a millionaire through insider trading.

"If you want to avoid suffering from high gas prices, the solution is simple," she said. "Just get elected to Congress and spend decades trading stocks based on insider information only Congress is allowed to have! Easy!"

The Babylon Bee is, of course, a satirical website.

In reality, Biden is asking Congress for a 3-month gas-tax holiday in order
to reduce gasoline prices for consumers.

An 18 cent price reduction is satirical, and it does nothing for people struggling to pay for home heating oil.

An 18-cent price hike, on the other hand, is something to be very concerned about, isn't it?

Paying $4.89 vs paying $5.07 is not that big of a difference.

A bigger difference would be paying $2.39 back in 2020, and paying $4.89 in 2022.

    Duh.

In reality, Biden is asking Congress for a 3-month gas-tax holiday in order to reduce gasoline prices for consumers.

Which will be nice, except experts claim it will only cause inflation to
get worse. I am more interested in what the energy secretary said the
other day... that it might be possible to use the war production act, like
it has been used for other commodities recently, to increase the supply.

At least two states... Oregon and Washington... are talking about not
enforcing the gas tax holiday. Since it is a federal tax, I am not sure
how they would accomplish that. If the feds are not collecting the tax,
would they pocket the $$$ themselves?

Although the piece is satirical there is some truth to it. Congresspeople, especially the ones that have been around as long as Nancy, Chuck, and
others, are probably pretty good at knowing what effects their legislation
will have on the economy. They also seem pretty good at getting rich on
what should be a salary that would prevent that. So where does their money come from?

Paying $4.89 vs paying $5.07 is not that big of a difference.

It is still a relief from inflation.

    2022.

Not really. The federally mandated minimum wage remains at $7.25
per hour, but almost all states have a minimum wage of at least $15.00
per hour. Maybe it is time your beloved Republican members of Congress
get with the times and raise the federally mandated minimum wage to a
    livable wage.

    For Life,
    Lee

It's a talking point that only lasts a few seconds.

Not really. The federally mandated minimum wage remains at $7.25

Raising the minimum wage is not a responsible way to combat inflation. Prices will just go up, to combat minimum wage-flation.

Many states have state gas taxes on top of the federal gas tax. So I would assume those states will have their own tax holiday.

But it's still pennies compared to the dollars that gas has gone up and is nothing but posturing.
