• oxp: delete crash - how?

From August Abolins@2:221/1.58 to All on Thu May 9 23:25:00 2019
    Hello!

How do I delete a queued Crash entry?

From the main menu: Fido/Crash, I have:

    +- Crash call... -----------------------------------------------+
    | r 1:18/200 Outpost BBS, Limestone TN |
    | -- other |
    | -- all | +---------------------------------------------------------------+

Since the above system uses "mbcico", it will never succeed with a file request.

How do I remove this entry? The F1-help is not providing any clues.

    From the F1-help .....

    ---------- 8< ----------
Pressing "E" allows you to edit the entry for the selected box, or
    delete the entry.
    ---------- 8< ----------

    Hint:
If, for some reason, that doesn't work, you can remove it manually by
going into your OpenXP directory and delete "request.dat".

The E)dit only allows you to clear out the file list. I was looking for a way to delete the SYSTEM.

Clearing the file list was fine, but when I thought I was done, the crash entry was still there, and the file list was back!

What is MISSING in the instructions, is to "keep pressing ENTER until the window closes for the changes to take effect"! Arghhhhh

OXP just has a strange way of finalizing changes (that is, keep pressing ENTER all the way through to the end of every configuration form) that I
    keep forgetting about.

I guess I don't need that anymore. Thanks anyway.

Hi Alan.. This was particular to OpenXP. Have you any experience using OpenXP?
    It's quite nice for a console-based program.

Yes. But apparently OpenXP does not play nice with mbcico systems. :( This is what my initial message was about.

On another note, MBSE BBS also has BW support built in so another
    possibility for SemPoint support.

Thanks for the heads up. Sean's "Outpost BBS" ought to be a good BW test site.

I think I tried OpenXP or crosspoint many years ago. IIRC the interface was in german perhaps and I couldn't figure out how to get going.

Yep, I think so. Sean is one of the MBSE developers I think, so yeah.. you could talk to him about mailer connects also.

    Yes, doesn't time fly :-)

Is OpenXP a continuation of crosspoint?

Yes it is and after the original CrossPoint author released the source in
late December 1999, a bunch of programmers got together and formed the
"OpenXP Team". The first thing they did was to port the 16-Bit DOS code
    to 32-Bit Windows.

Where can I find OpenXP today?

Methinks somebody beat me to it :-)

Ooops, sorry. Crashmail (netmail), in general works fine. I meant that I can't seem to direct a FREQ (nnnnnnnn.REQ) to a specific system. The controls in German confuse me, I guess.

Your startup-guide made it very clear to keep pressing Enter for specific config panels. Thank you. It would be nice to have that mentioned in

Sean must be "away from his desk" for an unknown period. :(

My Zmodem sessions were failing with tons of errors. Could not get a complete BW or QWK packet. :(

Can't leave a message on his BBS either. The online post editor kicks in, but then it *immediately* goes back to a menu. :(

WinPoint doesn't support that feature but it can be tricked into
    thinking that it does :-))

The trick is ugly, it's not elegant and it must rank as the most
convoluted process ever but it does work.

    Here we go .....

You need to find a message from the person to whom you wish to request
a file(s) from. If you can't find one, well, ummmmm, that's the end of
it and there's no need to go any further. Assuming that you've found
    one, proceed as follows .....

    - Right-click anywhere on the message in the viewer and click "Request
files from Message". This takes you into the request editor.

    - Double-clicking on any line of text will place that line of text in
the "Request" window down near the bottom of the screen.

    - Clear the line of text in the "Request" window by right-clicking on
the line of text and then click "Zeile loschen"(Delete line). You
may have to do that twice to clear the line of text.

    - Click in the "Neuer Dateiname" field and enter the filename you wish
    to request.

    - Click the "Hinzufugen" button and the filename should move into the
window above(that's the one where the line of text was).

    - Click the "Speichern" button.

    - Click the "OK" button.

    - Close the request editor.

    - Now look in the outbound window and your request should be sitting
    in the outbound queue.

    - Double-click the .req file and the "Poll Node" window should pop up.

    - Check all the details and if you're happy with them, click the "Ok"
button, otherwise, click the "Abbruch(Abort)" button.

    Have fun :-))
