• Winpoint: wanting multiple BossNodes and separate echo folders

From August Abolins@2:221/1.58 to Martin Foster on Fri Mar 22 18:56:16 2019
    Hello Martin,

Instead of creating separate echomail folder trees for each BossNode, WinPoint dumps mail into each respective area folder in my one and only echomail folder tree(2:250/1). In other words, after polling each
BossNode in turn, I have three copies of each message in each respective area folder in my echomail folder tree.

However, I know from past experience that if I'm linked into *different* areas at each BossNode, WinPoint *does* create a separate echomail tree for each BossNode.

OH! OK, if the echoname is the same, in either feed, then WinPoint dumps it in
just the first one in your side panel?

What do you have for Extras/Options/Tosser/Dupes? Wouldn't that deal with it?

But I guess you *want* a kind of redundancy: some of the same echos from more than one Boss? MAN.. you are one super uber user. ;)

But.. how can Winpoint be configured to be multi-point? If you are 2:250/1.1 with 2:250/1, how can you be a completely different point with another Boss? ..or am I missing something.

    Yes, that's correct.

I have "Toss to DUPES" but they're not dupes because they've been
picked up from three different BossNodes.

But I guess you *want* a kind of redundancy: some of the same echos from more than one Boss? MAN.. you are one super uber user. ;)

Yeah, it's what's known as a "belt and braces" approach ;-))

But.. how can Winpoint be configured to be multi-point? If you are 2:250/1.1 with 2:250/1, how can you be a completely different point with another Boss? ..or am I missing something.

    You're missing something :-))

There are three stages to configuring this:

    Stage 1
    -------
    - Extras/Options/Uplinks Tab.
    - Click the Add button at the right-hand side in the Systems pane.
    - Enter all the relevant information in each of the four Tabs(you
probably won't need to bother with the Fileliste Tab?).
    - Once you've done all that, click the OK button.

You should now see a new "Mailbox" in the Systems pane.

    Stage 2
    -------
    - Click the Add button at the right-hand side of the Fidostyle Uplinks
pane, which brings up the New Uplink Wizard.
    - Click the Weiter button but be aware, everything's in German.
    - Enter the relevant information on the page and then click the Weiter
button which takes you to the next page.
NOTE: there are four pages in total and on the first three pages,
you can go back to the previous page by clicking the Zuruck button
but on the fourth page there's NO GOING BACK!
    - When you get to the fourth page, click the Schliessen button.

You should now see a new entry in the Fidostyle Uplinks pane.

    Stage 3
    -------
    - Make sure the new Uplink is highlighted in the Fidostyle Uplinks
pane and click the Properties button.
    - On the Allgemeines Tab, click the down-arrow in the Mailbox field
and click the new Mailbox you configured in Stage 1.
    - Check the settings on all the Tabs and edit any that may need
    changing.

    Job done! :-)

    Regards,
    Martin

they should be dupes if the MSGIDs are the same... one might also employ some form of formula to check the message bodies and determine if a message is a dupe... this might be used if there is no MSGID in the message... this is mail tosser territory ;)

I've been using the directory structure for my networks/BBS's for awhile. helps to track problems:

    /var/opt/EchoMail/FidoNet/SBBS/Inbound
    /var/opt/EchoMail/FSXNet/Enigma/Outbound
    ....etc....

I'm with Martin on that one. If I want to pick up an echo from system B, then the tosser should not be deciding if I've already received it from system A. Messages from A and B should be separate piles.

But in Martin's case, Winpoint is seeing a match on echoname and dumping all those messages into one pile.

Technically speaking, yes, they should but in this particular context, they're not. I conclude that I'm trying to do something for which WinPoint isn't designed to do.

This raises another issue which I hadn't thought of until now. I don't have a "DUPES" area but I would have expected WinPoint to have automatically created one. ISTM that WinPoint's dupe checking is broken.

Yeah, so do I but I worded my message badly, sorry. I should have said
"I don't have a DUPES *folder* but I would have expected WinPoint to
    have automatically created one".
