    I think I have the name correct Stewart Island in New Zealand.

    I was going to go there but my contact there has returned to the US.

    I was wondering if anyone recommends staying on Stewart Island vs Auckland?

    I would suggest you skip Stewart Island and spend more time in Auckland then head down through parts of the North and South Islands :)
