I do have a 2 meter hand held but dont use it anymore there is 705 on mt taranaki 2 meter reapeter.

Does your hand held still work and can you hit 705?
I'd have to look it up but what's the national system freq?
If you can hit that it would be fun to try a QSO sometime from down here in Dunedin to you in Patea :-)

Well if you can still charge it up then it sounds like (in theory) it should still work.

I'm going to have to dig out the GURL for those freqencies to recall what channels they are operating on and if any of my gear handles them.

I'm hoping to set up some sort of gateway via packet radio to provide HAMs
with access to Agency BBS. But not 100% sure if I can do it and if the
software that would allow me to do so is even available. It seems like Synchoronet BBS will support an AX.25 style connection but Mystic (at
    present) does not :-(

Well I know Synchronet will do this but I'm chatting with the author of the ax.25 plugin now, in the hope I can perhaps suss something out along the same lines for Mystic :-)

I'm using an ICOM 2720 and thinking back a year or so ago I 80% sure I played around with soundcard packet and using a custom cable to drive the ICOM...
will have to have a look.
