    Hello All,

A proper nodelist parser will ignore the INA as the hostname is already specified in the IBN, there are no other protocol flags and INA is for those protocol that do not have a host name of their own in the protocol flag.

Also 24554 is the default port for IBN and should be ommitted.

    Cheers, Michiel

His host can fix all those when he adds the PING flag. ;)

Just in case one does not work? It seems to be another case of an incompetent NC amd and RC unwilling to educate. The majority of the nodes in his net has the same redundant INA flag.

Might be good to let the sysop know, maybe?

    A response from Ruben:

Incompetent I am not, Unknowledgeable yes, I never volunteered to do this as I had no experience, but I was asked to help out and so I do, reluctantly.

You should maybe a little more forgiving. Not everyone is an expert. Not everyone, it seems, really want to be a NC. Complaining about it here is probably not going help get things fixed any quicker. Who was actually going
to approach me and tell me there's an issue with my nodelist entry if I didn't have to just swing by and take a look and that specific message rather than blindly marking the group as "read". Why not reach out to the RC or NC and explain a pattern of errors and suggest ways to fix it rather than assuming someone's competency is flawed?

I guess we've all been caught, judged, punished, and executed by the nodelist police.

    Regards,
    Nigel

OK, you are right. I should not have used the word "incompetent". That was .. eh.. undiplomatic. I apologize.

    OK, so let's start again.

Regarding the net 124 nodelist segment, there are several anomalies.

    1) In the case there is only one protocol flag, such as "IBN", the hostname would normally be placed in the parameter field of the protocol flag, optionally followed by a port number. The port numer only if it is not the standard port for the protocol. In case there is more than one protocol flag and they all use the same host name, one can avoid having to repeat the host name for each protocol by using the INA flag to specify the host name. The INA flag never has a port number.

So the first line in net 124 should be:

    Host,124,DALLAS_TX_AREA,Mesquite_TX,Ruben_Figueroa,-Unpublished-,300,CM,IBN:pbmystic.rdfi g.net:24555

    2) XA is a file request flag. File request requires a direct connection and Pvt node can not be directly contacted. No XA flag

    Pvt,1113,Nibbles_&_Bytes,Richardson_TX,Ron_Bemis,-Unpublished-,300

    3) The third line is syntacticly correct. There are two protocol flags, IBN and IFT. Both use the same host name, so the INA flag is used for the host name. IBN uses a non standard port. Syntacticly correct.

    ,5009,Family_Net_BBS,Sachse_TX,R_Hoffman,-Unpublished-,300,INA:FMLYNET.DYNDNS.ORG,ITN,IBN :24556,IFT

However, the host name FMLYNET.DYNDNS.ORG does not resolve. Neither does the lower case equivalent. You may want to check with the sysop if the host name is correct.

    4) Line 4 is syntactically correct. There is however no binkp server answering at port 2324. Also it is shorter to use the INA flag for the host name:

    ,5013,Prison_Board,Mesquite_TX,Ruben_Figueroa,1-972-329-0781,33600,V34,V32b,CM,XA,INA:rdf ig.net,IBN:24555,IVM

    5) line 5, INA superflous.

    ,5014,Mystic_Prison_Board,Mesquite_TX,Ruben_Figueroa,-Unpublished-,300,CM,XA,IBN:pbmystic .rdfig.net:24555

    6) Line 6. INA superflous, port 24554 is standard so is to be ommitted.

    ,5015,PCBoard_Prison_BBS,Mesquite_TX,Dario_Figueroa,-Unpublished-,300,CM,XA,IBN:pbmystic. rdfig.net

    7) Line 7, same as line 6.

    ,5016,End_Of_The_Line_BBS,Plano_Tx,Nigel_Reed,-Unpublished-,300,CM,XA,IBN:ipv4.endoftheli nebbs.com

    8) Line 8, same as above

    ,5017,XM_Core_BBS,Dallas_TX,Dwight_Spencer,-Unpublished-,300,CM,XA,IBN:bbs.dapla.net

    9) Line 9, same as above

    ,5019,The_Other_Realm_BBS,Plano_Tx,Lawrence_Stockman,-Unpublished-,300,CM,XA,IBN:theother realmbbs.com

    10) Line 10, same as above

    ,5020,Stellar_Darkness_BBS,Toronto_Canada,Mike_Da_Costa,-Unpublished-,300,CM,XA,stellarda rkness.com

    Connection timed out...

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers, Michiel

Ruben gets his feed from Marc Lewis and Marc doesn't carry the NODELIST-POLICE echo so you're not likely to be reaching your audience. I'd suggest contacting Ruben directly. I did receive something from Fred Riccio that I passed to Ruben.

Anyway, this one line has been fixed:

    ,5016,End_Of_The_Line_BBS,Plano_Tx,Nigel_Reed,-Unpublished-,300,CM,XA,INA:ipv4.endoftheli nebbs.com,IBN,PING ;-)

Other lines in net 124 still have errors.

Not my problem :) I passed the inforamtion to Ruben and he said he'll work
with Marc Lewis, so I guess they'll come through eventually.
